Krisp, can you tell me the best way to measure ideal weight without calculating BMI?.I have been on a mission to get fitter since January, I go to the gym, swim , walk everywhere because I'm too mean to pay bus fares, I'm a size 12 and I can eat what I want without putting weight on these days, although for most of my adult life I was 2 stone heavier. Did you say something about a waist/hip ratio?

    Dragon’s Challenge Homework No 2

Personal Relationships, I have divided these into :
OH- 7, In order for it to be a ten, I would need to cut him some slack!!! I recognise that I am a go go go, I want it done yesterday type of person and I find it incredibly hard to relax, although since living in a rural area I have learned to go slightly slower but obviously need to work on this some more. We also need to spend time together going out, I find on his day’s off I find all these jobs that need to be done, so we never enjoy the area in which we live.

DD- 6 . Again as above - need to find girly things to do together

DS- 7 Again as above - try and play a game or 2 with him, something he enjoys
    .
Rest of Family - 5 My Mum - I need to get over the fact that well she likes the TV, its her life, she is 75 and in poor health now, so there is little else she can do, I think what was crunch time was the fact that we drove the 100 miles to see her and she continued to watch TV, so I just thought what’s the point, maybe if I engage her in something she likes like taking her to Bingo that might work
My Brother - Must make an effort to give him a call, so will need to think up an excuse to talk to him and maybe ask his advise on something he is knowledgeable about.
Other Siblings - I rang my sister on Sunday, My Youngest brother I will e-mail either today or tomorrow and My eldest brother I will call tomorrow evening, I need to make sure I maintain regular contact as it seems we only usually meet anytime when we go to mums for special occasions. What will happen when mum is no longer around? I will put it in my diary periodically as a to do job for today maybe once a month.
Friends - 2 I have started to go to a local Church and have joined a house group that I go to once a week, but I find I put up barriers, so that I wont get hurt, or used. I need to let people in and be more open to going to events and things (I’m really a hermit) When the kids get home from school and we’ve had our tea I find I don’t want to go out in the evenings and will make silly excuses not too. I think this has something to do with heath as well (see below)

    Financial - 7
Need to continue payments and try and save up for full and finals to finally get rid. I have just applied for my credit report so need to look through this and see what I can do to improve it for the future, as eventually I would love us to buy our own property.

    Health - 3
I have already started doing something about this I’ve been doing daily exercise, cut down my portions sizes and trying to keep occupied to stop from comfort eating. Need to keep a tight reign on my emotions as they play a huge part here. As I find I am constantly tired by the evening and don’t feel like doing anything.

    Work/Career 3
Need to either get on the access course or if I don’t get a place research an alternative to get to the job I want to do.

    Hobbies - 4
I need to be more organised in making time to do my hobbies, incorporate it into days out with hubby.

    Spirituality - 5
I need to spend some time everyday in prayer, devote a little time to study and attend chuch, evenings, house group etc.

    Self Conclusions
I need to get myself a daily routine, not so rigid that it is unrealistic for the things that come up in daily life but for the things that I want to do everyday. I need to keep up the momentum with my health section (Oh and did I mention I’ve lost 7 lbs already!!!!!!) Little changes that will change into habits!!!!
I figured out what is stopping me from Getting the life I want!!!! ME!!!!
Its my attitude to things that hinders me in moving forward, but I also need to be aware of being too hard on myself.
    WOW!!

Any comments, suggestions or observations, gratefully accepted............

    With Love:heart2:

How right you are, gluten intolerant but refuse to be tested as it involves eating gluten-laden foods for six weeks and lactose intolerant too but seem to be one of the lucky few who can have lactose enzymes and eat products as long as I don't have them too often. There's definitely a further intolerance sniffing around though, I've had sore sinuses for a few weeks and I'm taking the usual hayfever meds which normal stop it.
I used to eat a no-meat diet, lots of salad, lots of fish but reintroduced meat last summer (due to craving chicken) - I think the change in diet has confused my metabolism somewhat. But I have no idea how to fix it!

Funnily enough, the last time I was really unwell with IBS, I lost two stone. I hope you feel better soon, a nasty bout is never fun :( *hugs*

yes, I didn't go down the official gluten intolerance testing route myself - I did it with my friend, the PT who's also a nutritional expert and by elimination. We suspected gluten was the main culprit so added other things back in first, and when they didn't cause me major grief (ie, no severe IBS and minimal bloating or weight gain, we realised that I only had mild or no issues. I haven't touched any bread, pasta or rice since 1st October last year. Funny though, cabbage caught me by surprise - it must be a long time since I've eaten it!

I think that the body does sometimes need to readjust if we change our food intake significantly! I can't imagine not eating meat any more - and I used to be veggie at uni!). Maybe getting back to a good range of nutritious foods - veg, meat, fish and fruit (no gluten!) plus a good multivitamin might help?

Like I'm an expert... I've learned a lot from my adventures of late - and I have a very useful friend, lol!

Thanks for the hugs. I'll be glad when it goes away!

    hi Cath

Yes, I did! It basically helps determine if you carry more fat around your middle than your hips and therefore are at an inreaseed risk
of developing heart disease (apple shape) compared to pear shape. I'm lucky - I'm an hourglass/pear so am not at that increased risk.

It sounds like you're making every effort to look after yourself missus!

TMVen - yay on doing your wheel - see, you sat down and got it done (so now you can stop bein hard on yourself for that, hmmmm?!!)

it's funny how you identified that it was you who was stopping you doing what you want. I'm sure that's something we all have in common!!

I know that I am really hard on myself, that I push myself really hard, that I try and organise my OH on the one day of the week that we have together, that I feel like I should be doing more.... You are SO not alone in this list!!

Which bit would you like to change first, to make you feel like you were having the most impact for the best, but without it feeling like it was a huge and overwhelming change?

Oh, and I hear you on the spirituality thing. It's a battle, trying to fit into the daily routine....

Ok, I have had a think about this and come up with an essay, so don't feel you have to plough through it all!! It has inspired me how incredibly honest you are all being with yourselves, so have tried to be as honest with myself as possible...

    Relationships…2
This one scores so low because I have never actually had a proper relationship (shocking for me to admit at age 40!! :rotfl:) I just don’t seem to be able to do the whole dating and being with somebody thing… I think I would like this, but am also very afraid of it. This has always been a puzzle for me until fairly recently when I found out that there is a reason why I find relationships so difficult, and I am still trying to get to grips with this.

The reason I have given myself a 2 is because I do need long periods of time on my own and am happy with my own company.

    Social Relationships/ Social Life… 5
I have always struggled to make friends, and think that this is due in part to the reason I mentioned above. Saying that, I do have a couple of friends from school, and work with some great colleagues who I occasionally do see socially. I also have one very close friend who has been very supportive- although she has a best mate with whom she does everything- goes on holiday, out on the town, to parties etc, and it isn’t me, so I do have to try to stop myself being jealous at times!

I would like to make more friends, especially people who enjoy the same activities as me (mainly walking quite long distances) as I do feel lonely at times.

    Money…3
I have been in debt since I was 24 years old… same old story of getting a loan to buy a car, credit cards and then consolidating and running the debts up again… this was all manageable until I stupidly decided to buy a house to let out, and used credit cards to fund the deposit and works needed doing . The intention was to do it up and remortgage to get my money back out- except that it needed way more doing to it than I thought, I bought it just before the credit crunch hit, interest rates on the cards rose :o… I am now in a DMP with Payplan for years and years, but have a fairly well paid job and am hoping to be able to offer some full and final settlements. But this is a long way off yet!

I want to be able to travel and undertake trips and treks around the world, but can not afford to do this at present.

    Career... 6
I do enjoy the job I am doing, but am not entirely comfortable in it and can’t see myself doing it long term- the trouble is, I don’t know what it is I do want to do! Also things are changing, due to budget cuts, having to move offices in the future, etc. I really enjoy working with my colleagues but can see that we will all have to go our separate ways before too long.

    Health… 7
I had always been about 3 ½ stones overweight, but about 3 years ago I managed to lose nearly 3 ½ stones, mainly through changing my eating habits and exercise- I was training for a grueling endurance event which helped.

Unfortunately, now that the event is over I am finding it really difficult to motivate myself and have put back on about 1 ½ stone which I need to lose as it is making me feel so bad! I have just started to pick up the exercise again, so hopefully I am getting back on track.

    Adventure… 7
Adventure is something that is personally very important to me... I have a great wish to travel and see the world… I have undertaken some trekking trips and an endurance race but want to do a lot more whilst I am still relatively young! However, finances and time are impacting on this- these kind of trips are quite expensive and I am limited to how much leave I can take from my job. Also, I would not like to be away for weeks on end yet as I have an elderly cat and would like to spend her last years with her.

Ideally I would like to be able to go trekking/ exploring for a couple of weeks at a time, with some longer trips later.

I do enjoy going for long walks in this country, and should be doing more of this.

    Religion/ Spirituality… 8
I am not a religious person in the usual sense, ie I don’t necessarily believe in a God, but more in the sense of there being a kind of life force, or Universal Spirit, which is in nature and in each and every one of us and we can tap into at will. I have been studying the Law of Attraction, which states that whatever we focus on, with emotional feeling, we attract into our lives, good or bad.

I don’t feel the need for an organised religion in my life at this moment but am not saying that people who do are wrong… I think my beliefs are possibly leading towards Pagan…

There are some great free old classics on this which can be downloaded for free on the net, such as ‘As a Man Thinketh’ and ‘The Master Key System’ by Charles Haanel. I realise that this may not be everyone's cup of tea though, I am just exploring whether it can be something that works for me.

Over the next few days I am going to have a think about part two... I am very impressed at how far folks have come already! Many many thanks to Dragon for this well timed thread, Elantan for the thought provoking homework and everyone participating, you are all an inspiration! :j :T
  • I'm sorry I haven't kept up with posts, I'm still on page 4. Life has been a bit hectic, I'm working 80 hours aweek to make up for the short fall with hubby on the sick....

I have however made some progree on the debt issue... managed to transfer my 24.9% apr balance to a 0% on balance transfer for 15months and set up a budget and organised several accounts with "spends" for different things. I have also had 5 NSD's in a row and very excuited about this lol (I can't drive past the co0op with out nipping in for a drink and a sandwich!)

The NSD's are really helping me with my weight aswell! I am planning on starting "the pig2twig" diet on sunday after my little man's birthday. This is a wheat free low carb diet that will also help my IBS drastically as wheat is my main trigger.

I have also borrowed a tent and some camping equiptment of a friend and have found a little camp site I used to go to as a child for less then £10 a night so thats a long weekend away booked.... our first family holiday!

so although a little hectic I am making very positive steps!

hope everyone else is going strong!

Yay ladies for your work on this!

It's hard wok being honest wih yourself, but definitely worth the effort.

And then actually acting on some of the steps - is fantastic!

I was going to book my NLP taster course today but got my IBS taster instead, lol (not). The way I feel right now, i can't see me getting in to work tomorrow, so I'll have to book it by phone. Fingers crosse there are places left!

    Night all, sleep well x

    Hello,

just stopping by to say how great this thread concept is, thank you Dragon :A.

I've only just skimmed the last couple of pages but have now downloaded the infamous wheel so will start to work on it in my spare time & hope to be able to respond to people's posts soon. I really love how supportive & encouraging this thread is :D

I'm hoping that everyone else had a positive start to the week & I feel I'm already making progress; I paid £200 off one the CCs, came home from work & immediately did half an hour of exercise & have started to re read a book that should help me to move forwards on my spiritual path. Now, all I need to do is keep the positive action going; the part I usually fail at :o

    night night all
    xx
