The hardest thing I'm finding is the being honest part - not that I don't want to be, but identifying what is true now, as opposed to long-held thoughts about what is, or long-held thoughts of what should be. This last part is seriously hindering the second part of the homework!

I totally agree. I am only just beginning to realise that a lot of thoughts I have had about who I am are actually ones that have kind of stuck in my head for years. In actual fact, according to a very good and clever friend of mine, I am quite easy to 'read', I'm not a pushover, I am someone who people value as a friend.... all very different to my previous not so high opinion of myself.
BUT! In between client meetings I have found the course that I want to do, it's not mega-expensive (put it this way, two months of not buying lunch, drinks and snacks will pay for it) and it fits in with my schedule. I just need to do a bit more research to make sure that the provider has a good reputation and the course is accredited properly - and away I go!!
What a fab thread this is.

Many thanks to those who have posted their 'wheels'.
Interesting to read how you have interpreted the categories. I had avoided exercises like this as they seemed to assume a family and a strong connection to your local church - absence of either put you in the unbalanced category before you even started.0 -
Why not make up your own wheel? If you know that, for example, a church or religious connection isn't necessary to your current 'wheel' then it isn't something you should be forced to consider. Family - well if your family situation isn't something that you are able/need/want to change, then I think the same can be said.
I think our wheels change over time anyway. Life is a journey, after all!

If you click on the link on the first page Craftyscholar and scroll down- there is a blank template and you can put your own values in there. I think that may be more helpful in your case..or just pick an area you would like to focus on. It is for you and no one else, so you have nothing to lose...ooh i sound like a book i once read:eek::rotfl:Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

My Wheel - for the world to see!
Job (8) - though it has its downsides, like yesterday when I was so angry from it that I couldnt sleep for hours, I really do love my work and feel happy to work in the International Development sector which is very interesting and fulfilling. I've worked really hard to get here, and was lucky to find such a dynamic job. The loonnnggg hours, stress (I have quite a lot of responsibility and we are understaffed) and some personalities in the office are a downside, but overall Im rather happy where I am.
Career / Personal Development (6) - This is a bit unfair on myself, as I'm in a currently job for someone about 7 years older, but Im in a rush to get where I want to go and some things are holding me back. One is getting my own butt in line and getting my qualification done - its not related to my field, per say, but it will make me a much more attractive employee. I also need to travel more and get more overseas experience with work, which I keep getting promised but not getting. I need to keep pushing on this, without making myself out to be here only for the fights! Im a bit frustrated that the organization I work for isnt good at keeping staff, and instead seems happy to see them go rather than developing them in house.
Relationship (8) - I've been with my partner for 5 years now, since I was 17 and he was 24. For ages it bothered me that I had never had the chance to play the field. This has largely passed now and Im grateful for what I have - a fun, loving guy who takes great care of me and makes my life brighter. Im not sure if its forever (who is!), but it doesnt bother me at the moment and Im quite satasfied. The only thing that completely could mess this up is if it comes in the way of persuing the career I want, but that crossroad is a good ways off.
Money (7) - I'm on the path to being debt free very soon, and then its all mine! I do feel a bit underpaid at the moment, considering the responsibility I have at work. I would love to have loads saved so that I can have a deposit on a flat somewhere, but I think that’s still another year or two off. I am proud of my independence though and of what I've accomplished so far.
Friends (5) - A year ago I had several great friends as was really happy with this. Now many have moved away from London and I dont have many at all - I need to work on this.
Looks (5) - I've never been a girly girl - never worn makeup, painted my nails, etc. Its only recently that I've become quite unhappy in how I look and would like to change it. Most importantly, I have an ugly stained tooth in the front which is about £650 (!!!) to fix, so need to save up for that, but I will be able to smile in pictures again!
Volunteer Commitments (7) - I play a big role in the organizations I help, but balancing my time can be difficult! I need to be better at giving them my all, as they are causes important to me.
So there we are - the things that really make my life what it is! Doesn’t include progress towards spawning or spirituality at the moment. Enjoyed the exercise, on to part two soon!Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000
Debt free as of 1 October, 2010
Taking my frugal life on the road!0 -
Home / Physical environment – 8. OK with spare money I could make improvements, but I feel comfortable here, have space for all the things I need – it’s my home and I love it!
Partner / love / relationships – 8. Single and perfectly happy about it
Health / fitness – 6. I have mild arthritis, but OK apart from that, however I have had evidence (from friends) over the last two years of how quickly health can change. I need to do something about my general health -/exercise levels (like use the rebounder I bought)
Growth / learning – 6. Had to downgrade this as I have let my study slip. However I want to start another course next year so I need to get my books out and get the brain cell up to speed again.
Money / finance – 6. My income should be enough to live on ‘comfortably’, but I know I do waste money – so I need to work at budgeting so I have money for what is really important to me.
Family / friends – 5. I am happy with my own company, but I do enjoy the company of others as well, but I am bad at keeping in touch / instigating contact – need to work on that.
Recreation / hobbies – 6. Sewing and textile art. I have a cupboard full of ‘supplies’ and a mini-library of books. I really need to use them. Family history – want to make progress on this over the rest of this year (which means I could cancel my Ancestry sub next year)
Fun – ?. Im’ going with Dragon on this one – reading and TV (but I spend/waste too much time on them)
Second thoughts - I should have included going to the theatre - except I can't remember when I last went. I'm not keen on going into town at night, but there are matinees - must reinstate this habit.
Spirituality – 6. I’m not a believer, would probably cast myself as agnostic, but I should give some consideration to what I do believe in.0 -
You have all been so diligent! I think one of the reasons I haven't posted mine up is partly to do with one of the dissatisfactions I have with my current MO - lack of time! I know I can make time to do this (and I will on Sunday) but if I tell you I get up at 5.15 and get back from work at 8pm that might give you some idea... Last night I squeezed in some guitar practice as I have a lesson on Saturday afternoon which I squeeze in every other week after my weekly synagogue commitments. And Residents Association commitments.
Don't get me wrong, I love being needed and get a real buzz out of helping people, which is where a bit of the 'meh' factor comes in with my job. It's intellectually challenging, but doesn't fulfil the 'helping others' factor that I'm now realising I need. And travelling to get there is both expensive, long and tiring. But it pays well and there's a great team spirit! This morning I'm later than normal as going to doctor's first, so had a lie-in until 6am!

so after you have figured out where you want each bit to be ... figure out why it isnt there ... what is stopping you from getting there.... what is in your way ? and are they all connected? is it similar things that are stopping you each time? do you really need to sort everything out or just the one and then the rest will fall into place?
just wanted to remind you of this bit ... yikes the sore bit0 -
