Flateric and Emzy - I always overspend on online shops too! I see all the offers and get tempted, wheras in the supermarket if I take a list I tend only to give in to a couple of offers on impulse.
Just got back from Somerfield - I went for the on offer toilet rolls and bought some golden syrup (for twinks hobnobs), wholemeal bread and two impulse buys of iced gems (2 for £2) and Warburtons bread rolls (£1). Total spend there was £10.62. Then went and sent back a parcel to QVC (another impulse buy I didn't need:o) which cost £2.36 postage, but which will get £100 paid back on to the credit card:j So in total I spent £12.98. I think that the challenge has really helped me so far - when I was at the checkout in Somerfield they had loads of haribo and other sweets which I often buy for the kids but today I realised that for the £1.32 each bag cost I could make a load of hobnobs so I resisted! Still sticking to the meal plan too which is good. Tonight it's chicken with hm barbecue sauce, jacket potatoes with sour cream and chive, salad and sweetcorn. Mullerlight and fruit for afters. Kids are a bit fed up with the lack of "rubbish" type stuff in the house but it is doing them good! DD2's school skirt, which was looking decidedly tight is much looser an DD1 has also lost a bit of weight. Now - If the same could only be said for me......Jane

Just popped in to update siggy. Spend today on a few essentials, so budget so far is just over £88. We had a whoopsed chicken last night, so will strip the rest of the chicken and make a curry tonight with some value curry sauce and a coconut block, bulked out with the usual dregs from the fridge. Hope everyone is o.k.Grocery Challenge 2010 £400 each month

And that's before I even start on the tinned tuna etc in my cupboards, and allow for using scraps off things to make up other meals (like the bits from a gammon joint and a turkey joint to make up a rissotto) or the bacon for things like spaghetti carbonara, or the many packets of mushroom rissotto (courtesy of App F00ds).
With just 209 days left in the year (of which I don't expect to have DS2 here for more than 13 weeks/91 days, and very little of DS1 home on leave at all), I guess I should need to stop buying ANY meat or pies for the rest of the year.........
So I can actually manage for the rest of the year, never mind the next 3 months :eek:Cheryl0 -
I did a similar tot-up on Saturday (4.5 drawer stand-alone freezer, plus 3.5 drawer freezer of a fridge/freezer), and reported in on the NSD challenge thread

Wow that is impressive! Ooh you're brave, i daren't tackle my storecupboard items, but they are going down as ive stopped adding to them 'just in case', just in case what i wonder! I have a
pantry type cupboard in my kitchen that i adore, that has a huge box on the floor with tins of things in and a shelf with other bits in, i last stocked it up last summer, not long after we moved into the house and we're still working our way thorugh it, im pretty certain i have enough beans and value curry sauce to feed the neighbours, i think i went a bit MSE OS crazy last year! Still, i now only have one full 3kg bag of pasta and half of a 3kg bag left.....;)0 -
