In deepest darkest africa i am sure they don't have loo rolls and i am also sure they don't all go around with filthy backsides. I can't comment on what they do do specifically but it's an idea....
Some cultures use water primarily to wash away urine rather than just wipe it.
OK a really gross thought but here goes - for No.1's use water & a cloth, wash the cloth. Save loo roll for No.2's.
Probably easier just to stick to spending a fortune on loo rolls....
This would only work if you were replacing/replumbing BUT this reminded me of a book which I read years ago on dealing with cystitis. The suggestion ws that you should have a shower head next to the loo, so that you could rinse with water after weeing and then dry off with a handily located towel. If you were really keen then you could make do with a jug of water (as I did when I was suffering) although this does involve more cleverness when it comes to balance, angle of pour etc0 -

For men i guess it is much easier, for ladies then one of those indoor watering cans works a treat (the ones with a long spout), not need to struggle to get the angle.0 -
Hi Im a mum with a husban and 2 boys. Im really trying to cut back on my shopping by following all of the fab tips on this site, and things are going ok ish. But I find that loo roll and washing power are a major expence for the family ( I think my keds must be eating the stuff )
I have tried the value stuff but just get through it even faster. Any advice would be wonderful.

Hi chante,
There's a long thread with lots of hints and tips on cutting back on loo roll that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Tesco value is 40p for 4 rolls, and is entirely recycled which is an enviromental bonus. I don't have kids but my niece insists on wrapping about half a roll around her hand so if this is the case with your family then it may well be a case of enforcing some sort of rationing or reducating about the difference between what is necessary for hygiene and paranoid over-indulgence!
Most washing powder manufacturers want you to use far more of their product than is necessary; start by halving the stated amount and see if you can spot the difference - often the only change is that the rinse cycle becomes more efficient and you can cut down on conditioner or substitute vinegar and water mix (about 8fl oz in total in proportions of a quarter vinegar to three quarters water)
Loads more tips to be found on the mega list.0 -
We get through at least 7 rolls per week and there are only 4 of us. I'm going to try the squashing tip.
When staying with my mother in law once she had a captive audience at dinner time and proceeded to lecture us on how to wipe our botties. I was furious but kept silent. She did it again or started to a few months ago and I blurted out " isn't using a few extra rolls worth it in order for us to come and visit you". Now we all take our own roll with us so that she can't complain anymore.
I have never stolen a whole roll but when at a concert or exhibition I often pull off enough for two trips and stuff it in my bag in case the loos run out of paper later on - it is possible that everyone else does this too and that's why they run out!!0 -
How do you wash your bits without getting water all over yourself, all over the floor etc? (if you use a shower head i mean) as knowing me id end up flooding the bathroom/aim in wrong place knowing my luck!

Soz, it's late so I haven't read all the answers.
Did anyone else use a sheet of Izal toilet paper and a comb and blow across it to play tunes? It smelled of jeyes fluid as I remember.
I try to stock up when Costco have a special offer on Kleeex triple, once you're used that nothing else is the same!0 -
Hi all
Getting ready to buy some more toilet roll and this is one thing i hate spending money on !
The cheap stuff seems to go "bitty" does anyone have any best buys ?
thankyou once again x0 -
In my house it's Asda Shades toilet paper. Good quality but without the price tag of the branded ones. I don't like the value toilet rolls either - they always seem to have less sheets to the roll, the paper is thinner AND they have bigger tubes in the middle.
For a tip to make the roll last longer try flattening the tube before putting it on the toilet roll holder. It doesn't 'whizzy' around the spindle as easily - so less of an opportunity for accidental over-use.0
