I noticed this morning that my lilac tree has sprouted some buds on the very ends of it's branches. Does this mean spring has sprung  ?

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Hi all, I haven't posted on here before but thought I would share with you today.

Having had a lovely weekend, spending time on the allotment with dh, today didn't start particularly well - we had the third power cut in 2 months this morning (3.5 hours this time) and dh took 2.5 hours to travel 45 miles to work. However, I came across this today and am seriously weighing up our lifestyle at the moment to see if there is a realistic alternative: http://www.patiras33.comyr.com/
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

    Hello all :)

I had a few smiley moments today :) looking in the garden I saw a blackbird, a thrush and a wee robin :) Very cute that they were so good at living together.

Also my hyacinths are really beautiful at the mo!

  • Thought it was time to resurrect the smiles! We are just back from our first few days of the season at our caravan in Nidderdale and we stocked up our bird feeders, fat blocks etc as usual. All our regulars are back with us - Jays, Woodpeckers, Tits, Pheasants, Partridges etc and also the squirrels! Once again it is all out war between OH and the squirrels as he tries to thwart them in their endeavours to pinch the bird food!!

On the greenfingered front I am busy digging over our garden area there, knowing full well that everything I plant will be eaten by the rabbits! Good job we are both animal lovers!!

I used the dead thorny branches of an old gooseberry, which I dug up last year, as a deterrent to my cats around my newly planted vic plum tree. Today they're all in leaf! Looks like I might have at least 6 little gooseberry bushes in the making :D

OMG, remind me why we live in the UK. Could we club together and form a commune?

Yesterday I transplanted (stuffed) some brassicas into rootrainers and wished that I had left them alone as they looked so sorry for themselves, so much so that I sowed some back-up seeds. I put thm into a shady place, watered them and misted them early evening. This morning thay are standing tall and firm and already looking healthy, phew!!

Another thing that made me happy was to see that my onion sets have stopped accumulating in groups or turning themselves upside down and they look settled with green shoots

been there, done that. Not really a commune but self owned and self managed leasehold with 78 other properties in 50 acres and communal facilities. It only takes a couple of mean-spirited bad apples to ruin it for everyone. So much potential but so many leave it to a small few to do all the work. That is people for you
