Sorry for reviving an old thread again, but now that a few more weeks have passed I was wondering if anyone else would like to share their experience of switching to Airtricity?

I am tempted, their website claims they might be able to save me around £8 a month, which is not to be sneezed at, but if the switching part is a nightmare, then its not so tempting.....

So far everything has gone very smoothly. I signed up to switch over at beg of June and got final bill from NIE at beg of July. I submitted a meter reading online yesterday for my useage since I switched and am expecting an online Bill from Airtricity any day now. Have opted for DD so they will debit my account about a week or so later.

got my first bill, an estimated one £29.38 for a month lol! considering my last NIE bill was £150 for a quarter, I'll take that lol!

although must check to see how realistic their estimate was

the only issue and I've had this both with personal and the work one I changed over as well is the registering your customer number process doesnt appear to work on the website, but a quick phone call and its sorted, pleasant customer services staff too....so far so good

Had a house call from a salesman for Airtricity last week and signed up, Great to see more engery providers entering the market as NIE have had it too good for too long, hope Airtricity work out ok. I think its actually 10% of a discount when you take into consideration that NIE already offer 4% for direct debits. Airtricity quote up to 14%. Still 10% saving on your bill is good. Airtricity have no budget plans as yet you pay by e-bill every 2 mths, NIE meter readers will still read your meter or you can email your own reading. No contract involved, free to leave at any time.

I am looking to swop to airtricity and just wondered how the process works.
I got an estimate last time from NIE (I didnt know you could email your meter reading that day) which was an overestimate.
How do you let NIE know what your final reading is so you get an accurate bill to pay or do airtricity do this?

You give your final meter reading to airtricity along with the other information they request (there's a list in this thread somewhere) and they do it all for you. If NIE owe you because of an overestimated bill then they will pay you what you've overpaid.

Also, can you just join them straight up, rather than switching?

I've e-mailed them but got no reply.

As I understand it, if you have just bought a house or are moving into rented property, you have to contact NIE first. Once you are on the system as the owner or tenant then you can switch immediately.

With regards to the difference in price, if you are on NIE direct debit then you should see a 10% saving, if you aren't direct debit then you should save 14%.

I got my first bill from Airtricity .Strangely it was an estimate .
I read my meter when I signed up 0n 20th June .I got an email requesting a reading on the 12 July ,I then got an estimated bill on the 19th July . Why an estimate a week after they got a reading ,I dont know .
