Is anyone else not receiving the meter reading reminders from them by text message? I signed up with them ages ago and have received 2 bills now, but not a single text message.

I've had the same issue. Not getting the e-mails or text message and my bills have been estimated each time.

I signed up in the autumn and have had no problem receiving the meter read reminder (both email and text) for my first two bills. Are you sure your correct details show up in the 'Electricity meter read text reminder service' section of their website?

Well they've made a mistake with my meter reading and are now planning to collect 660£ as apparently we used 5118 units of electricity over 2 months.
    Really?
    Really????

Email to customer service and two pictures of the meter as it stands now.
Keep your fingers crossed it gets sorted out quickly!

They overcharged me as well last week, no emails or texts for meter readings so submitted one online and emailed them.
They rang me back the next day, cancelled the bill, took the new meter reading and said they would get a new bill out to me.
Guy called round this morning to read the meter.
Whilst on the phone the only contact they had for me was the home number so changed it to mobile for texts in future (although thought I'd already done that).

If it goes as above I'll be impressed, had called NIE about estimated bills before (theres only me in the house) only to be told they couldnt cancel the payment and would refund me the next time.

the only part I dont like is they dont offer monthly direct debit .

    Hi old git,

they do monthly direct debits if you ask them, I just changed mine from every 2 months to 1 per month because it is easier to budget for me and if they do overestimate the bill then you get hit by a big amount ( as what happened to us)!

Same thing happened to us - but impressed at the speed they sorted it. Can't imagine NIE doing the same somehow.
Know now that you can submit a meter reading at any time just by logging in to your airtricity account page - you don't have to wait for them to send you a text or email.
Working out a lot cheaper than using NIE too - I thought it was about the same for a while and then realised that we were paying the direct debit every two months and not every month!!!

Be careful if you have received an overestimated bill. I got mine before Christmas and it was £66 too high. Despite contacting them in time they didn't issue a revised bill until the New Year (were they off all the holiday period) and took the extra from my bank account.

I'm still waiting for the refund to be processed, so I'm not impressed, not happy and may go back to NIE once the refund is through.

While I agree you have every right to be disappointed with that - I simply don't see the point in returning to NIE to pay higher tariffs and receive even worse customer service. That's just cutting off your nose to spite your face surely.
  • Had the same problem over the last 2 bills. 1st bill I contacted them as they had received my meter reading via e-mail but for some reason sent an estimated one. They cancelled it and sent a revised one which was fine as I just thought it "teething troubles" but then the 2nd bill arrived and exactly same thing happened. After another phone call (trying hard to get to the bottom of this) I was informed I was sending my meter reading too early.
Apparently I am billed 25th of every other month, if I send my reading say 10 days before that date they do not use the reading because they must bill me as near to the 25th of the month as possible so an estimated reading is sent out.
In order to have my bill same as the meter reading I was told to submit the reading on 24th or early morning of 25th. I am not due another bill until 25 January and so I haven't tested this out as yet. Hopefully if I do the reading early 25th I wont have any more problems. Fingers crossed. I must admit Airtricity were most helpful but as I pointed out if I have to telephone every other month to correct the meter reading this was taking off any savings I may be enjoying from the change to Airtricity.
