Yes great detective work from dunstonh. I recommend you clear your cache also if possible. In order to get the correct Javascript.

in the quick preferances, check send referer information is selected, not sure but may be the same thing in Opera

As MSE Ian knows I've had this exact problem too since the skin change but today I've came on, found this thread, read all the posts, did nothing to my settings (still using ff 3.5.9), clicked a thanks as an experiment and hey presto, it worked :D:D I'm a happy bunny again, many thanks to Quasar for the thread and MSE Ian and dunstonh for solving the problem :T:T:T:T:T:T I will thank away till I can thank no more :j
