    Never tried Firefox.

Before I got my gorgeous, wonderful, sexy, clever Mac (can you tell I am smitten? :)) I used Firefox and loved it. Never had a moment's worry with it. I am now using Safari and that is equally good.

See I'm on Opera now and I tried to thank these last three posts but the system doesn't accept it. I refreshed and no thanks are shown and the thank button is still on each of your posts. Going back to IE right now but I sooo wish I could use Opera. I was going to uninstal IE altogether, good job I didn't now...

  • Just a thought Quasar, the thanks bit of this site is a script, a little program embeded in the site if you like, i wonder if there is a setting in opera that is blocking it?

For one reason or another Opera does not seem to be seeing it, so the only two conclusions are that opera simply does not recognise the script, so ignores it, or as a security measure, it is ignoring it because the settings are telling it too.

Trouble is, i dont use opera, so dont know where to start checking, maybe asking on the tech board if it may be a settings issue could be worth a try?

I have no idea whatsoever. We'll see what MSE Ian comes up with. :A

  • Bat-out-of-hell is correct. This hack part works using a couple of technologies called Javascript and AJAX (not the washing powder) to quietly launch another web page without you knowing. The web page it launches in the background does the actual thanking.

There may indeed be browser settings in which are blocking the hack, preventing it from functioning. Or even settings in security software. Be on the lookout for any settings which talk about Javascript or AJAX.

If I could replicate the problem here I could use debugging plugins such as Firebug or Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar to gather information on the problem. Unforunately I cannot replicate the problem here. The hack functions for me regardless of what browser I use. So I would be grateful for any information you can PM me such as which post you tried to thank, when, what exactly happened, which browser and which version of the browser you used, whether the problem persisted or went away, whether thanking other posts worked. whether the problem occured in other browsers... etc... Any Javascript or AJAX related errors may be very useful.

Please note we don't expect users to know where to find all of this information but as much as you can provide is greatly appreciated :).

This is a third party developed hack and the bug is known. So I would assume we are not the only people looking at it. Nevertheless we will endeavour to fix it as quickly as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you to everyone who is assisting with the investigation.
  • Setting browsers or security software to block cookies from this site may prevent this hack working. I'm investigating this further amongst other things. Meanwhile if you are experiencing problems you may want to check to see if you have cookies enabled. Thanks.
  • to check JavaScript in Opera, press Ctrl +f12 (or select setting -> preferences in the drop down menu after clicking the red box in the top left corner)
