to check JavaScript in Opera, press Ctrl +f12 (or select setting -> preferences in the drop down menu after clicking the red box in the top left corner)

I'm suffering it on firefox and avant browser (which is internet explorer based). I just tried IE 8 (windows 7 x64) and same problem there as well. It only started with the forum changeover.

However, I just turned off my antivirus/firewall and thanks works after that. Turning it back on again and the problem comes back. Checking the logs, it shows a being blocked by the webfilter.

The notification type is "referer" and its action type is "removed":
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com/post_thanks.php (GET)
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com/post_thanks.html (POST)

So, I am guessing whatever change was made, its having an effect on webfilters on various antivirus/firewall/security programs. For reference, mine is VIPRE. I havent changed any of my settings for weeks and the problem only just occurred. So, its one of two things. New code on the board not liked by security software or a new update from the security program blocking it as a false positive

Edit: I also notice that images.moneysavingexpert.com/images/forum_images/arrow.gif was blocked as well as notification type "referer". That explains why I am missing certain icons.

    forums.moneysavingexpert.com/images/gradients/gradient_panel.gif also blocked - referer
images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/forum_smilies/cool.gif - also blocked and a number of others.

Many thanks dunstonh. We changed our file extensions from html to php a while back and it looks like you have some old Javascript cached. I put in a safety net to catch accesses to old html URLs and correct them but clearly your security software has a problem with that, which actually isn't unreasonable. You might want to consider clearing your internet cache. Then you will get the updated Javascript pointing at .php and the problem will go away.

I'll see what I can do about it at this end also. Incredibly useful info there.

    MSE Ian,

As you can see from the thanks added to your post, clearing the cache out worked for me. Hopefully, that will be the answer for others.

Just an update Ian, I read the tip regarding javascript and rather oddly my thanks button works when I switch it off. Nothing else does though lol
