Morning everyone....I am loving seeing more cakes:D:D keep them coming;)

QUESTION....Does madeira cake have vanilla in it??

Also what do people think of this recipe? (scroll down to page 13 Madeira cake recipe)
Good/bad/you could advise some improvements;) I tried it and found it quite dry, but I did leave it in slightly too long as it was a bit dark around the edges!! Funnily enough it is nicer now it has been left for a day or two *confused* has anyone else found this?!? I decided to give it a try as it gave me exact measurements for a 9" cake mix......I know a few of you have recommended some recipes but I am not confident enough in my baking skills to convert them to a 9" mix:(

I really need to get an 8" round tin, it would make life a lot easier;)

Oh yeah, is there such a thing as a chocolate madeira cake, or would I just make a chocolate sponge cake!!

Sorry for being so useless...I am pretty good in the kitchen, but baking cakes seems to be a bit trickier and you can't be as slap dash:o

I have been lurking here for a while and have been trying to muster the courage to put some piccies of my cakes on!

Can anyone help me please? I have just made Angela Nilsen's Ultimate Chocolate Cake - for my best friend's 30th Party tonight. I had a practice run last week, and it was amazing! I got up really early to bake it, so I can ice/decorate later, and I have just realised that I foorgot to add cocoa. OMG - is it ruined? Shall i just start again????

Well after watching all the youtube clips and looking through the site me and the kids made these

Only had Starburst sweets so used them. The kids found it a bit strange that the chowmein ones looked savoury but tasted sweet.

We had good fun making them and they were surprisinglly easy.

There's some great MSE cakes I'm loving this thread and the ideas on here.

Have you baked it yet...are you able to pinch a teeny bit from the underneath middle section and have a taste? It 'might' be ok, as there is chocolate in it, isn't there..

Best of luck with it and let us know how you get on, oh, and can we have piccies of your cakes (inc this one) pretty please:)

ETA - I was just reading through the comments on the site and someone had made it without cocoa (they had run out!) and they said it was still perfect:D

Thanks MoodyMel - well it came out and tasted good (i chopped the peak off to taste!!), but it was not perfect, so I have re-done it, together with a batch of cupcakes if all else fails!

I promise I will take the plunge and start getting some piccies on here (i'm jus a bit nervous cos' everyone is soooo talented!!).

    Thanks xxx

    Zippy- ahh brilliant thankyou!

All you cakes on here are amazing! I will try and find some piccies of the ones I have made, they are no where near as good though!
I have another question, I'm making another cake for a friends birthday, we did art together for A-level so I was thinking about doing a paint pallette. Do you use fondant icing to shape and make decorations with to put on top, or is there a special kind of icing that you use?.. I don't really know what I'm doing =/

Yes, fondant icing is just like playdoh. You buy it in blocks (can get coloured blocks too)

    Good Luck
