Minimacka - I don't believe that's your first attempt at making a novelty Cake !!!! :p it's excellent! I bet the Birthday Boy loved it (and I bet they will be asking you to make next years cake too! ;)).
    Well done

If anyone is on the lookout for a cheap recipe book, I can recommend the Be-Ro Recipe book, Morrisons sell it (in my store it's on the shelf near the flour) for about £1 or you can find them on ebay for about £2. I've had mine since School (and that was over 15 years ago!) and I have used it hundereds of times.

Thanks Stokegal:) What size tin would that be suitable for please?
What is special about that particular vanilla extract, I usually just get own brand flavours/colours.....or I have had dr oetker ones, just depends what the particular supermarket is selling:o

Oooh I forgot to say, I bought the 100 piece decorating kit from the works today;) I alo went to poundland, I was looking for the silicone bakeware that emlou mentioned, they didn't have nay but they did have some 'proper' cupcake tray, the nice deep ones:T I had been keeping a lookout for these for a while and nowhere ever seemed to have them:cool:

I got mine from Wilkinsons for £4, nice deep muffin tins. I did see last week that Morrisons have theirs on offer at half price at £3.50 - found just after I had bought my 2nd tin from Wilkos.:rotfl:

I bought the giant cupcake silicone mould last week from The Works. I have tried one cake, put spray on oil in it, but it all stuck. Any ideas please?

Did you also dust it with flour? I just greased mine well with marg and dusted it with flour - haven't ever had a problem with it sticking

Hi MoodyMel - I just find that it is tastes creamier and has more depth that other vanilla extracts that I have tried. I use to use Supercooks but I find that when compared to this it tastes artificial and slightly metallically if that makes sense

This was my first attempt at a topsy turvy cake - It's not fully finished yet but I'm pleased with it except I wished I had shaved some off the top tier

    That is fantastic Stokegal:T

I think I know what you mean about the supercooks...although I am very new to cake making and am only really trying to do nice cakes for my kids, if they turn out well I am going to do my sisters wedding cake next August:eek:

I really enjoy cooking and baking so if I get the cake making bug I may enrol on a decorating course, there is one at my local college starting in january and runs for 12 weeks:D

I made the chocolate cola cake today, it tasted gorgeous, I wasn't 100% happy with the consistency though, it was very dense and didn't seem to rise much..... I sifted everything, and was delicate with the mixing so as not to bash out the air, it appeared to rise fairly well in the oven but I think it sunk as it cooled *confused* Not that the kids or my husband noticed (or would have cared anyway;))

Not sure whether to try it again, or maybe try a plain sponge or madeira first:cool:
