help me PLEASEEE.................
I thought I'd have a trial run of my sons b'day cake by making some buns with him.
Simples I thought, take 1 nigella recepie (eggs, flour, sugar, bicarb of soda, butter). Seperate mixture. Colour one lot green (with morrisons food green colouring). Put in cake cases some of each to make a 'marble' bun.
OH NOOOOO..............................
The green colouring................ turned RED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on PLEASEEEE tell me a fool proof recepie that I can use for his cake that won't change the colour of the food colouring.
Thanks.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -

Success, did as you suggested. Just got to ensure I put in enough cake mixture next time. Thank you.0 -
hope you don't mind me posting, but I wanted to say thankyou to whoever posted the Chocolate cola cake, (think it was Becs?) I loved the sound of it and have made it with the children tonight!! we went a step further and made it into (what should look like) and owl!! just hope it tastes nice.
Only probs I had with the recipe were the 40 mins of cooking time was not long enough!! I ended up putting it in for another 20 mins!
Please excuse the big crack in the top ... I had a knife ready to see if it was cooked through and I sort of dropped it off the top of the cooker and it just sunk!! lol :rotfl: splattered the kids with chocky though so was worth every bit of laughter and fun!

Wow - that looks fab rusty
I too had massive success with the cola cake but unfortunately it all got eaten up before I could take any pics...
I'm having a nightmare tonight - I have 2 cakes to make for tomorrow - 1 giant cupcake and 1 2 tier hannah montana cake - I made both cakes last night and decided that I was going to make the hannah montana cake a topsy turvy cake - BIG mistake I cut way too much off and it looks horrible now so now I need to make a 2 tier cake, make the buttercream, ice it and make the decorations for it all before I go to be tonight
To make it even worse the woman who ordered the hannah montana cake grabbed me today at work to tell me how much her daughter was looking forward to her Hannah Montana cake!!!0 -

They're really good odollybird. I especially like your black and White cupcakes
After my last night panic I am please to say that the cakes went down REALLY well. I'm so chuffed I was up till 12.30am and I tried out loads of new techniques... Making models with rice krispie treats, making, dying and working with modelling chocolate (so easy!!)
Here are my cakes from last night0 -

sorry chicky - I must have missed your post before - I'm afraid I cant help anyway because mine have always come out the colour they were suppose to... This is going to sound really patronising and its not meant to be but are you definately adding green colouring as I have added what I thought was adding red colouring into a cake before and it turned out it was yellow colouring0 -

Thanks.
was the cake mixture green before you cooked it? what colour has the plain mixture turned in the cooking process? what tin are you cooking the cakes in?
what are the ingredients of your green food colouring, as im wondering whether something is reacting with the bicarb. ie if a natural colouring then its most likely made from onions. no idea on what mixing sulphuric acid and bicarb would create, maybe red?
