Add all ingredients into a food processor and mix at full speed for 30 seconds. If you don't have a food processor (like me) then put all ingredients in a bowl, cover slightly with a tea towel (so icing sugar doesn't go every where and mix with an electric food mixer
i have just made like a cover for the top of my mixing bowl when i am mixing icing suger to make butter cream, i got a polystyrene board ,the ones u get ur pizza bases on from the super market, and cut 2 holes in the middle of it big enough for your mixer whisks to fit through and then put your mixer whisks into your mixer with the polystyrene disc on then place on top of your mixing bowl , hey presto no icing suger dust flying every where, and there's no chance of your tea towel getting tangled in your whisks.0 -

my plan is to buy 9" and 12" round white iced cake and decorate. I want it to look similar to this http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1644821
How would i color the icing?
you can paint the icing with food colouring, but build it up in thin layers, so as not to make it too wet, otherwise it dries streaky, but it still wouldnt be a true red colour
the easiest way would be to re-ice the cake, with pre-coloured ready roll icing, over the top of the white. but most ready-iced white cakes come with piped decorations on the top, so you would have to try and remove these first

Sorry I can't help but I can advise - Asda's pink food colouoring is derived from beetroot (you can actually smell it!! my DD's really girly pink girl and wouldn't touch anything it went in!!) so It's completley wrong - I find gells better then liquad - do you not have some kind of cake decorating shop near by??
I've just decorated some cupcakes for breast cancer awarness to sell tomorrow and found Dr otekars pink ready made icing (please don't shoot me down I'd rather make my own!!) is the perfect colour for the pink ribbon and shows up great against a chocolate ganache. hth x:beer:0 -

I am doubtful you would get a nice pink colour in the sponge as there is cocoa powder in the red velvet recipe which would make any lighter colour 'muddy'. I think you would be better off sticking to the normal recipe and going mad with the pink decorations. I can't help but add edibe glitter to all of my decorated cakes at the moment!0 -
