  • I have had the biggest nightmare tonight with my fondant icing :-(

I have not decorated a cake for a few years, and me being me rushed straight into it and forgot to knead the icing before i used it. So it all just cracked when i rolled it...and now im left with a big ball of mess.
Is there any way I can rescue this? Or do i need to go out tomorrow and invest another £4.50 in some more?

Im going to sleep pretty annoyed with myself tonight :'(

I was going to say the same as odollybird re the dry cracked icing, also when you roll it out, use cornflour not icing sugar to stop it sticking to the worktop

I really need some help Moneysavers... Does anyone have any trick advice for writing on cakes?

I ordered some lettering off Ebay to go on my Dad's birthday cake, but it has come this morning and they are tiny! Not at all what i expected.
I need the cake for Friday and i really don't want to use writing icing and do it by hand, Im terrible at that..arghh!

Not sure if anyone answered, but what i do is print out what i want to write and then with cocktail sticks i stab through the letters onto the icing (gently though)

Then you can 'trace' over the dots with your icing, and the writing looks fab :D

    Hiya,
No-one had, so thanks for that :-) Im not sure I understand what you mean though, Do you mean cut the letters out and use them as like a stencil? Or put the whole peice of paper on and stab through that?
Also, what type of icing do you use?

Sorry if thats lots of questions, I know its probably quite simple but im having one those days! (well weeks actually-hehe)

Um, print it out and stab through that. I usually stab through before i put it on the cake so i dont put any pressure on and crush it.

Then when you take it off the words are there but in dot form.

I used normal icing sugar mixed with water, but made a bit thicker so it didn't run off.

This was my first attempt, which is why its rubbish :p
