    Hello All,

I just spent the last 40 mins going thru this thread from begining to end - I LOVE IT!!! A good friend of mine is having a huge 40th birthday bash in november with "Festival" as a theme. I would absolutely love to suprise her with a fantastic cake but am struggling with ideas. I would hugely appreciate any input from you guys - any ideas???

    Thanks in advance,
    Allison,

  • Oh, those are FAB! I'm going to be making some skull cupcakes for a Halloween party next week. I just found out that you put a marshmallow between part of the cake case and the cake itself then icing over the top to give it a skull shape and I'll decorate it with chocolate buttons and flaked almonds. I shall post pics next weekend. :)

Hi all. Some of you may remember I posted a few months ish ago looking for help to make my daughters birthday cake, well here it is :)

    IMAG0106.jpg

Im very pleased with it. Its not perfect but I have only ever used sugarpaste once before so I dont think its a bad job at all. I just bought the wee waybuloo toy as I decided it was deffo safer than trying to make one.

I found the letter cutter very difficult to use. The icing keep sticking in it and I had to poke it out but they look grand enough for me :)

    Thanks for the help

Tilly122 - I have a guide in one of my Debbie Brown book and will hunt it out for you tomorrow if that's ok.
Emms - your cake is lovely - I especially love the letters and colouring.

I finished my 80 cupcakes earlier today. I used the James Martin chocolate recipe and made cupcakes with it. I added more icing sugar to the icing so that I could pipe it and it's AMAZING to be honest I thought the recipe was slightly sickly before but these cupcakes were gorgeous.

I also finished a football cake for a friend - I found the football SO difficult to do and it still didn't turn out right :(

That was my first attempt at a figure too

Hi Stokegal just to let you know I managed to find a recipie online for the cake and made it yesterday. It seems really firm but i hope its going to be ok! I usually make victoria sponge, not Maderia, so that might be why. Thanks anyway :-) (You're football cake is amazing by the way)

I need the cake for Friday, so decided to freeze it for a couple of days. Im going to ice it on Wednesday evening so when would I need to take it out of the freezer for to ensure its defrosted when I come to decorate it?

I really need some help Moneysavers... Does anyone have any trick advice for writing on cakes?

I ordered some lettering off Ebay to go on my Dad's birthday cake, but it has come this morning and they are tiny! Not at all what i expected.
I need the cake for Friday and i really don't want to use writing icing and do it by hand, Im terrible at that..arghh!

Silly question.. I can bake quite well but never tried fancy icing. My daughter is 7 soon and i want to make a normal round cake and ice it with pink icing(ready to roll) and top with butterflies, My questions are how do you get the icing to stick to the cake, then the butterflies to the icing? Also can you buy small cutters for the icing?
