Called my landlady to see if she would let me use my kitchen to bake cakes as a business - See wasn't in the office

Called Enviromental Health to arrange for the to inspect my kitchen - not so easy - I have to complete an application form and then they assess me

Contacted the local Farmers Market to see about setting up a pitch - There was no number, you have to ask in personat the market

Called my local college to sign up for a Food Hygenie Course - They no longer teach the £30 Level 1 course, just the £65 Level 2 :( and it's on 2 days :( Both in the week when I'm at work :(

Called back up college RE Food Hygenie Course - They do the course on 1 day :) But again it's in the week :( and they charge £85 :(

Called college about starting Cake Decorating Course - They have spaces available but I needed to register by 7pm today and wasnt home in time :(

So I'm no further forward really... Back to the drawing board - need to think of a business name first!!

ok, most of these things are easily overcome, i think your biggest problem will be your landlord, as tbh the implications for them are alot more far reaching, ie changes to insurance, additional wear and tear, maybe even mortgage problems if BTL

environmental health, form very easy to fill in, and the timescales arent that bad for your checks. however i would recommend gaining your food hygiene certificate before going for the premises check, as this will give you a good knowledge of what needs doing to your kitchen to bring it up to standard. nothing worse than having the check done now, failing and then having to wait another month for a reassessment

as for the courses all being during your worktime. for this you are gonna have to bite the bullet and miss work those days. you have to think longterm. whats 2 days off work now, if in a few years time it means you can give up your current day job, and do your cakes f/t, if thats what gives you enjoyment

cake decorating courses arent necessary, all they teach you is how to achieve the same results in a quicker way. something which most cake decorators work out for themselves anyway over time (or join specialist cake decorate forums where you can pick the brains of others on how to achieve what you need to do). however i have always found you can fit so much more in on a one day course, than a few hours a week in the evenings, so again, whats one day off work, if it improves your skills (and future earning potential)

in all honesty, the business name should be at the bottom of your list of to-dos, and by focusing on it, in some way perpetuates you to keep this just as a dream. your cakes are great, stop procrastinating and get those forms filled in. honestly if youve loved making cakes for years, why now worry that is gonna take you a few more months to get certified? (not in that sense, but white coats are par for the course lol)

On Friday I made the choc brownies from the Great British Bake Off cookbook and some iced doughnuts (baked in a doughnut pan in the oven rather than fried).
    Yum!
    All gone now, though! :o

I'm really excited. I signed up for a 6 week cake decorating course and tomorrow is my first night. I received an email from my tutor last week asking me to bring along a 6" fruit cake to decorate for Christmas. I had already made all mine and they were all either mini ones or 8" so I've had to bake another one.

It won't go to waste though, my sister has already bagsied it as it won't have had the usual "feeding" that mine normally get (her husband can't have alcohol) ;)

Hi all. I went to a cake decorating class today and it was sooooooooooooo good! I made my daughter a Waybuloo cake for her birthday party 2 weeks ago but tomorrow is her actual birthday so cake class today was good timing. We were making a mini so I asked to make my pink so that it was nice and girly. So pleased with it. Nowhere near as difficult as I thought it would be. Im looking forward to trying something like this again on my own :)
