I used a star nozzle and did individual squirts (if that makes sense) :)

I do HATE making Buttercream though so I'm debating cheating and buying ready made, is that really wrong??

    YES that is wrong! lol
How about a cream cheese icing?
This is one that I use and it tastes delicious (if I do say so myself ;))

    Cream Cheese, 250grams (9oz)
    Butter, 150grams (5oz)
    Icing Sugar, 400grams, (14oz)
    Vanilla Essence, half a teaspoon

Add all ingredients into a food processor and mix at full speed for 30 seconds. If you don't have a food processor (like me) then put all ingredients in a bowl, cover slightly with a tea towel (so icing sugar doesn't go every where and mix with an electric hand mixer!

I have made this a few times now, and I use stork marg instead of butter which may make it go a bit runnier, so I just keep adding icing sugar untill I get a nice consistency..

It pipes really easily onto buns.

    Thanks Zippy

I normally use a lemon buttercream with 1 part trex, 3 part icing sugar and loads lemon juice, otherwise it's too stiff to pipe (I blind tasted my friends on real lemons versus Asda's 60 odd pence lemon juice and the lemon juice came out on top!!!) I make it really lemony so that if you try and eat it on it's own it comes out slightly too tart but mixed with vanilla maderia cake it tastes lush!!!

I didnt see the boy's face who's cake it was but his dad (my next door but 1 neighbour) loved it and asked me to do his daughters cake in December (that was before he had even tasted it) I need to improve on my piping skills - did you buy a piping bag or just the nozzles - i have a resuable piping bag and hate washing it - I'm looking for the cheapest place to get disposable bags

The ones that came with the set are disposable and the nozzles are metal. Have a look on ebay for disposable bags, the might be cheap on there. There is that Seller in Malaysia that people use - Baking Frenzy or something and they have loads of cake stuff. Will look for a link for you.

Here is the link to them and they have 100 of the icing bags which work out about 6p each if no one else bids!!

Thanks Thrifty - I did pipe the top of the cake but there actually isnt much buttercream on it because of the shape of the cake... I'm not explaining this very well....

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SILICONE-JUMBO-GIANT-TOP-CUPCAKE-BIG-MUFFIN-MOULD-/300465173040?pt=UK_HomeGarden_Kitchen_Cookware_GL&hash=item45f51eb230

This is the shape of the cupcake - the buttercream is only a thin layer on top of it as the shape comes from the cake - does that explain it any better - sorry!

Is this the seller that you used and the mould that you have?? Looks great. I might send the link to my sis and get her to order me one!!!

    Hi,

I have done a few princess Cakes like the one in my avatar. They are really easy, I just made the cake in a 2 pint pyrex pudding basin. Covered the Cake with pink fondant icing.
I removed the legs from the doll  as it was only a cheap one from the £1 shop and then just cut a very small in the top of the Cake and pushed the the doll in. Easy peasy :D.
For the dolls top, I used a heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out some more pink icing and stuck it onto the doll with buttecream.

I also have one of the big silicon Cup Cake cases, but haven't had any probs with it sticking. I grease it with marg first, then dust it with penty of flour.

  • Hey everyone!

Ive been a bit of a lurker and thought it was time to post. I was tempted to get the silicone giant cupcake mould but couldnt decide and there is a shop near me which hires out the tins but they only had the giant cupcake in a metal tin so I gave it a try...
I would never EVER recommend using it to anyone, it took me nearly half an hour to get it out! That involved me sticking my hands down the side of the tin to loosen it a bit and shaking it like a mad woman! I managed to get the bottom half out ok but broke the swirly bit (but that was alright because i stuck it back on with icing) :-)
Im really rubbish and dont know how to upload pictures so can any one help please?
Or can i just post my fb album link?

hiya, this is how to post pics. Upload your photos to Photobucket (free to join). when you go into each picture, on the left hand side, there will be certain codes - Email and IM, Direct link, html and IMG. Copy the IMG code into a blank message on here and it should work -

eg - 28092010235.jpg will show in your message as this -

    Hope this helps :o
You're so very special, I wish I was special
