Thanks pointofnoreturn!they were!! lol
You're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0 -
Hello, I havent posted here before but I made a giant cupcake today and I'm so proud I need to share it!! You ladies make such gorgeous cakes, I've been drooling reading this thread start to finish
I took step by step photos for those thinking about doing themhttp://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=261710&id=714896693&l=460aab6cb9
It was actually pretty easy - I used 225g stork, 2 eggs, 225g sugar, 250g SR flour and a tsp each of vanilla, baking powder and baking soda in the top but it was too much and it rose up so much I had to cut a third away! But that was probably a good thing as it took so long to cook the middle the top got a bit crispy.
In the base I used the same recipe but replaced 30g of flour with cocoa and an extra egg. The top took 1 hour 40 mins and the base took 1 hour 30, both on gas 3.
I scooped out a tennis balls-worth from the middle and filled it with buttercream, and covered the top in chocolate ganache, cherries and sprinkles!
It weighed 1512g - and I zeroed the scales with the plate on, so that doesnt include the weight of the plate :rotfl:
ETA - I used a silicone mould and it turned out quite easily, I sprayed it with cooking spray before filling it as well.Mummy to

Thats fab emlou - what chocolate do you use for your ganache?? I tried a bitter 80% chocolate and it was vile (48 cupcakes all ruined with horrible topping - I cried a little throwing them away

There is that Seller in Malaysia that people use - Baking Frenzy or something and they have loads of cake stuff. Will look for a link for you.
Here is the link to them and they have 100 of the icing bags which work out about 6p each if no one else bids!!
stokegal - I went back and added a link for disposable icing bags on ebay with the seller that alot of people seem to use. Not sure if you saw it or not!!! Have quoted my post again.
Also - the ebay link you posted for that silicon cupcake mould - was this the same one that you have??

Sorry pointofnoreturn - I'm definately going to get some disposable bags from there although I was on another forum last night (traitor -I know) and they were talking about a method called "plastic wrapping" which looks loads easier than what I'm currently doing and looks good for multicoloured piping

The silicone cake mould is the same as mine - I checked my ebay history and i paid £7.49 for mine but the same seller is now selling them for £6.75

Hello,
Just wondering what you guys recommend as a good cake recipe for a cake to be iced with either a picture drawn on or some little figures made out of icing put on the top... It for my sons 1st birthday next week but have never made anything like this before!
I have heard a madeira sponge is good as it is more dense, but I haven't got a clue!
Any help advice would be gratefully received!
Thanks
Jen

If you go on ebay you can buy edible toppers for the cake you might be able to get something to put on the top. x0
