Thought I'd post a picture of the pinata cake I have just made for my daughters 9th Birthday. It's my first attempt and I wasn't too sure how it would work out but I'm really pleased with it.
and this is the inside

I have been asked to make a bike helmet cake, well more the stig helmet from top gear.
I was going to make the bottom from a round tin, then make the rest from a pyrex bowl, but wasn't too sure if it would work or not, and how long would I bake the cake in the pyrex.
Help! and help would be great.
Thanks

how long would I bake the cake in the pyrex.
In Nigella's Domestic Goddess book she gives cake timings and quantities for a barbie birthday cake which is a similar sort of thing to a pyrex bowl (and is what my DD's Barbie cake got made in) and she recommends an hour at gas 4/ 180c. If you've got a cake skewer or piece of dry spaghetti you can test it towards the end and adjust timings accordingly. She also uses a six egg mix to fill it, I can give you the recipie if you need it.
Hope that helps and good luck!0 -
Thanks for that, if you have the reciepe to hand that would be good.

250g plain flour
1.5 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/4 tsp salt
200ml buttermilk (or 75g yogurt mixed with 125ml semi-skinned milk)
1.5 teaspoons of vanilla extract
125g soft unsalted butter
200g caster sugar
3 large free-range eggs
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas 4.
Sift the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate and salt together and set aside.
Pour the buttermilk (or yogurt mixture) into a measuring jug and stir in the vanilla.
Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy then beat in the eggs one at a time.
Gradually add the flour alternating with the buttermilk mix, one after the other, blending well after each addition until thoroughly mixed.
Pour into the tin and bake for about 30 minutes or until well risen and pale golden brown.
She doubles the quantities for the Barbie tin/ pyrex bowl and bakes for an hour and it'll probably leave you with a bit of mix left over. I also used the single quantities to fill an 8inch tin and then sandwiched the two together.
Good luck with your cake!0 -
