My questions are - will this make the cake taste of coffee as not many members of my family like coffee cake?
If I miss this out of the recipe, is it going to be lacking 100ml of liquid therefore drying the cake out? If so, what could I use instead?
Any help gratefully received
I made a choclate beetroot cake that has some coffee in and it tasted very strongly of coffee, it was GROSS!!

It depends what kind of cake it is. If it's a madeira or fruit cake, today will be ok. If it's a sponge, it really needs to be baked the day before. Fondant will keep, so decorating it in advance is fine.0 -

I need a bit of inspiration from everyone if I may.
I have been asked to make a wedding cake, instead of cup cakes they would like the ice cream cone cakes, and then a top cutting tier, how can I include the top tier into the ice cream cone theme?Debt free wannabe

How about you bake a giant cupcake, but make it like a fairground tent.
Or make a square cake like a tub of ice cream?0 -
Thank you for the ideas earlier in the tread.. I've now finished the cake, and will be unveiling it to a suprised son ( along with a decent cheque for graduating with a first!) over a family meal out later.
I didn't make the cake in a cap shape in the end, as it was a lot of black fondant, .. messy! So I've made scrolls ( a few days ago to dry) brushed them with sparkle dust, and written dates etc on them in sepia food colouring pen, and used cutters for the other words & dates.
I'd love some feedback.. can you tell me what you think, if it's good enough?!
The ribbons are in navy, icing is cream, to match his gown. Please ignore the pins on the corners, they are holding the ribbon in place while the icing underneath used as glue dries!
Thanks! xx0
