Hey im after some help here please, ive been asked to do a charity night selling off cupcakes. The lady has asked me to do 100 cupcakes to sell and 200 mini ones to give away. She also wants me to get some boxes for the ones were selling - boxes of four, now does anyone know where the best place is to get these cheap and is it worth me asking for a better price seeing as its charity??
Also the theme their going for is retro - any ideas on how to decorate would be absolutely brilliant as i havent got a clue.
thanks for reading and i hope you can help me0 -

A friend has asked for a fruit cake fir her grandfathers birthday. I have seen that you can buy these in & this is what I will probably do. But can someone tell me do I have to marzipan it then ice it? My friend doesn't like marzipan & would prefer it without.
Some help would be much appreciated!! Sponge I'm great with but not fruit!!
Thanks all.
P.S love the princess, fab 1st cake & the Fire Engine is amazing! :0)
The reason you need marzipan under the icing on a fruit cake is that otherwise the fruit will stain through the icing and make it look awful. If your friend wants fruit cake I think you have to have marzipan and if she doesn't want it then you need a sponge cake.
For what it's worth I dislike the taste of marzipan - ie. the yellow stuff that covers a battenburg cake - but have no difficulty with good quality almond paste. It's the strong, artificial almond flavour in cheap marzipan that most people dislike.0 -

I just need a good madeira cake recipe for the bottom tier to hold the other 2 tiers, then I think I'm going to make a chocolate one for the middle and lemon for the top. Is this a good idea?
All ideas and suggestions welcome as this is the first 3 tier cake I have made and need all the help I can get!! I have bought dowels for the tiers and have all I need to decorate it. Thanks everyone in advance x
I made my brother's wedding cake a couple of years ago from a BBC Good Food recipe that had chocolate, lemon and light fruit cakes for the 3 tiers. It was fabulous and there wasn't a single crumb left by the end of the night. Here's the link for the how to put it together bit - the cake recipes are linked in it.0 -

You can get boxes off eBay or google search if you want to shop around. You bulk buy boxes fairly cheaply, but you'd probes need to buy 200.
The Hummingbird Bakery have just released a batch of retro sweet flavoured cupcakes, they look awesome on their FB page. I'm going to give them a go.0 -
Thanks - also if im just selling one i was thinking of using those cellophane bags, does anyone know what size to use? And whether its cheaper to buy the bags or just use normal cellophane and tie them myself with ribbon.0

Right, finally found a recipe I can use, just need some advice. Its a chocolate cake from Good Food website - http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4577/wedding-cake--rich-dark-chocolate-cake which looks gorgeous, but the ingredients say I need 100ml of very strong coffee?
My questions are - will this make the cake taste of coffee as not many members of my family like coffee cake?
If I miss this out of the recipe, is it going to be lacking 100ml of liquid therefore drying the cake out? If so, what could I use instead?
Any help gratefully receivedYou're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0 -

I would say that it won't make the cake taste of coffee, but give the chocolate more depth of flavour.
Can you not try it out beforehand to make sure it's ok? If you really don't want to add the coffee then substitute it for 100 ml of whole milk0 -
thanks Annie, its gonna be a one try thing cos I need it for friday, read some of the comments on the website after I posted it on here, and they also say it doesn't taste of coffee. think im just gonna go for it!! Don't get anywhere in this life without experimenting! You're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0
