Was going to have a go at making a two tier birthday cake for my friend. This may sound really stupid but do you need to put the second layer on a board before you stack it?

That is up to you some people dont think they need to however some think it adds extra support you need to make sure the cake is level though have a look at this

    Hi all,
I have read every single post in this thread since about September 2010. I love baking and have recently been getting better! I love all of your tips. Finally I have the courage to post!
I follow some of you on facebook under my normal account, but have recently set up a facebook page for my cakes "Mama's Cakes." I would be really pleased if any of you would like to friend request me. There are some amazing cakes on here, I hope to be as good one day!

I do not get on my laptop often (2 x young children & I work in a SEN school!) but will post every now & again, and as always read every post you all add!

P.S. I have signed up with image shack but cannot post links as I am new! Do not know how to upload pictures into my post :0(

    Of course :)

    340g (6oz) butter
    340g (6oz) caster sugar
    340g (6oz) self-raising flour
    6 eggs
    2tsp baking powder

If you have fan assisted oven, 160 for 50 minutes. And I use melted butter to grease the pan (I have a silicone one!).

    Hi Babyfreckles,
I know you posted this a while ago just wondering whether you combine all ingredients together in one go or cream butter and sugar together then add the egg and fold in flour?
    Thanks in advance

The recipe says to put all together, but I dont, I cream the butter and sugar, add the eggs, and fold in the flour & b/powder.

    Hope this helps :) xx
