Yum Yum!
Can you tell me how you made the Cake Pops? I have a rough idea from reading things on the net, but just wondered how you made yours? and are they just dipped into normal melted chocolate?

I made my cake pops with guidance from http://www.bakerella.com/category/pops-bites/cake-pops/
I had made a cake and it was a disaster, so crumbed it up and then made same amount of buttericing I make for 12 cupcakes, and blendinga bit it at time until I got the right consitency.
I did use normal chocolate, but I dont think it goes as far as the candy melts, which I see you can now get in hobbycraft.Saving 2.00 coinsGrocerys set to 40.00 pwBeing Thrifty0 -

the only difference between candy melts and chocolate is its thicker, so stays put and sets hard - also the colours stay vibrant and you dont get the white hue that can get with untempered chocolate
unfortunately, when you price up candy melts compared to the supermarket value choc, the cheapy stuff wins every time for me - paste colouring can be added to white choc without it seizing

Hiya, I posted someones video of the Roses on my blog. They are so effective
I love doing them now.
This is the Video that helped me.
Thats a good video! Word of advice though, when she was doing the second cake, the standard swirl, its better to start the same as the first cake (i.e - from the middle, outwards) as this will stop the middle from collapsing in, might not be a problem if your using a medium size tip like a wilton 1M, but a big tip would make a significant dip!
To Awesome3 - That happened for me as well, but some of the products worked, the gift boxes for example. My guess would be that they only send the stuff that is cost effective - some of the little bags of chocolates they sell (like the flowers on my cakes) wouldn't be cost effective i dont think..??
Plus, i made these cakes today - this is my first time piping with royal icing6 debts down - 1 to go: just over £1000 though, soon soon....

anyone have any ideas on how to pipe henna designs onto a cake? I haven't really tried piping properly yet but I'd need to use royal icing right? I have some henna stencils, could I use those or would it be better to trace a pattern and somehow put it on the cake?
You could use the stencils with some royal icing on fondant! Roll the fondant to the desired thickness, lie the stencil on top and spread some royal icing (coloured if necessary), peel off the icing and cut with cookie cutter, carefully place on top of your cake6 debts down - 1 to go: just over £1000 though, soon soon....

The royal icing is lovely. I was watching a guy making royal icing roses on cocktail sticks last night on youtube. They were brilliant, and let them dry and they are lovely and crunchy additions for cupcakes
When I do the swirl on the cake, I do a dollop in the middle and work from that. Im going to make lemon ones on Wed for a birthday on Thursday, will post them up if they turn out okSaving 2.00 coinsGrocerys set to 40.00 pwBeing Thrifty0 -
Does anyone know if I can make a cake with maltesers? Not a fridge cake with them all mushed up - I was thinking something like chocolate chip muffins but with maltesers in place of the choc chips. Would the maltesers just disintegrate?
I don't know why I suddenly have a yen for cake with maltesers in it! Really impressed by some of the cakes here, it's a whole different food group from the stuff I make, impressive and inspiring :T0 -
Heres my first proper iced cake attempt - ive done cupcakes to put with it, i shall put a pic of it all later on. Can anyone help me on how to perfect my icing skills as i am not that good and it was quite bumpy.
And this is a cake topper i made for a christening cupcake tower im doing. Sorry about the massive picture, i couldnt make this one smaller0 -

i think they would more or less melt away, depending on how long they were in the oven for - you might be left with a small chewy lump, and a streak of chocolate though - maybe freezing them first would stop them disintegrating so quickly?
if you want the malteser taste though, Nigella makes a cake that has horlicks and chocolate in it, so you get a malty chocolate flavour, without the crunch
