Problem is, although I believe Plasma is currently the best technology, I'm going to have to buy an LCD due to really bad phosphor lag (a bit like dlp rainbows) that I suffer from on EVERY plasma I've viewed. A bit of a pain, really. You're thoughts on the subject got me a bit worried really 'coz I'm on the market for a new tv at the mo'. Finally want to upgrade from my good old Panny CRT."...IT'S FRUITY!"0

OLED TVs were being touted as the next best thing. LG has released a 15" OLED for about £1800. It's going to be quite a few years before you see a large screen OLED at a sensible price, especially since the manufacturers appear to have shifted their technology development focus to 3DTV.

No no
Dont worry about that. Ive got a new sony LCD. Itll do me for a good few years
Just be aware though, that no matter WHAT you get (LCD, PLASMA or whatever) that tvs tend not to last as long as CRT have in the past (Cheapie components used to fit all the specs in)
On the phospher trials your seeing ~ where they set up correctly? All hdtvs (Even the mighty pioneers which are no longer made) have all the extra processing cr*p switched on by default, when they really shouldnt have.:idea:0 -
Out of interest what Sony did you buy? I'm after a Sony too - 46 inch, but even at that size there are a ridiculous amount of TVs in the Sony range!"...IT'S FRUITY!"0

Yep, and every incarnation has changes that makes its very confusing for consumers
Mines the 46W5500. The models have changed , they were S, V, W, Z then X
V and X were supposed to be exactly the same except W had 'motionflow'. I also heard people were having problems with 'black smearing' on the V sets which is why I plumped for W. Personally ive switched motionflow off, it made the screen look very unatural with movement. HD looks incredible on it though (I use a proper calibration sensor to set tvs up)
As for the very new sonys, ive not really followed the models to advise on them. I can look into it if you wish though?:idea:0 -
Thanks for the offer, currently doing that myself! I'm a kinda 'do six months of research before buying' person. Of course, by then, technology moves on!!"...IT'S FRUITY!"0
