What sort of idiot bothers to get on a Tanoy system to announce a dog dying in a car!?

People please, if you ever EVER see a dog in a car in weather like this.....break the window and call the police. The Police and the RSPCA are on your side and you are within your rights to break in.

Don't wander round trying to find the owner as a dog can die within a few minutes in a hot car.

I totally agree. There was a programme on in the week about this, the RSPCA rep were smashing the windows at a horse fair. In one car one of the dogs was already dead, the other they fought had and failed to save. I couldn't care less if someone tried to have me prosecuted for willful damage of their property.

  • My dog still likes frozen facecloths - a leftover from her teething days!

I just wanted to thank cinderellacomplex for suggesting this, our puppy is 8 months and still teething, on top of this she is a long haired black german shepherd! So the frozen face cloth has helped with both the teething and the heat!

I make sure my 2 cats both have sun block on there ears and noses every morning as they both have white ears and parts of there face, got a animal sunblock from Pets@Home after seeing some of the pics in our local animal shelter showing some cats which have lost half of there ears due to the sun and no protection....

Well my very hairy black dog has been suffering badly this year. He hates even warm weather (snow and rain are his favourites). He is 9 now and definitely suffers more than he did when younger.

Yesterday he went to the dog groomer where he usually just has a bath and is groomed and we had him clipped really short. The groomer said almost all her customers are having their dogs clipped this summer.

When we went to collect him he looked like a totally different dog. It's weird every time I look at him but he looks really cute and actually younger!

Most importantly he seems so much happier. Today he actually seemed to enjoy his morning walk and even had a bit of a run whereas every other day he has just plodded along as though it was some sort of torture being walked!

I have two black dogs and bought them a cheap paddling pool to play in. They really love splashing around in there, helps to keep them cool. I also give them ice-cubes aswell.

We just spent a lot of cash on some professional clippers. Not dog clippers though, cow clippers. Fantastic buy. Louis' fur had already clogged one set of dog clippers, it took probably an hour and a half for me to clip him with them. With the cow clippers (we'd used a pair last year), it took 30 mins, including cleaning up the slightly scruffy patches.

Probably going to shave him again before the summers over (maybe twice). Lot of money, but saves me time, and also cash since we'd probably be taking him to the groomers next time (well, maybe not so much cash, since these things cost a hell of a lot).

Sorry I have not read this whole thread....but wanted to warn people transporting young pups and kittens in these temps. There have been several reports from breeders, of people picking up a kitten and then facing a longish journey home who have had problems. Even with AC in a car the carrier gets really hot and these kittens can die in transit or soon after from dehydration and shock.
