Have just put some ice cubes in to freeze - they used to make our last dog sick but apparently Sammy likes them - I'll put a few in her water bowl later. She has 2 water bowls on the go too, one inside and one in the garden - tricky bit is to educate her to have her evening walk later when it's cooler - she seems to be able to tell the time! :rotfl:

I keep trying to put the fan on and get ours to lie down in its path but she won't have any of it. I change her water bowls every hour so that the water is always nice and cold but she is still panting.

When we finally (maybe) move to the UK, Louis is going to be one happy chappy. No need to be shaved (though he doesn't mind that), and not getting too hot all the time.

I regularly soak him down on longer walks, patting the water into his trimmed fur, and giving him a soak on the belly too. It means carrying a couple of litres extra water, but I know he'd be in trouble without it. Come the summer, long walks are only going to be early early morning, or late evening.

I make TJ an ice bowl when it gets hot he loves them. You need 2 bowls 1 larger than the other. (I use pudding basins) quarter fill the largest bowl then drop the smaller one into the large water filled one. use cling film to hold them level and freeze. The smaller the second bowl the larger the ice bowl is. When its frozen you can add water, TJ loves it.
Make a few so you have a good supply, I pop them in a freezer bag. (They also make a great bowl for a fresh friut salad)

I soak towels in water, wring them out, fold, then thoroughly freeze (in plastic bags). Then open them out and put in their plastic beds (or on floor) - the dogs love to lie on them and, strangely enough, it doesn't make them wet.

We also use this idea if we have to travel any of the dogs in hot weather - when the towel has de-frosted drape it over the travelling crates to keep the temperature down. We usually keep some spares in a cool box. We have also got clip-on cage fans and keep the air conditioning turned up.

Just remembered, you can also get bandanas that are filled with some sort of gel or granules that soak up the water - these are designed to be frozen then tied around the dogs neck.

I've not used them myself but have seen quite a few dogs (and people) wearing them. HTH :D.

Thanks for this, my dog is suffering with the heat as he is a hairy dog, even though he has been clipped he is still irritated, he is mainly white fur.

I will sort this out now, so he has more comfort tomorrow. many thanks i would never have thought of doing this x

Don't do what my friend did - she wrung out the towel and then just left it all twisted up - it froze in a solid lump!! LOL!! :rotfl::rotfl: If you have a chest freezer try to lay them out on the top and freeze them with minimum folding - they last longer.

My dogs are also very hairy and seem to find this very comfortable :).
