The fans are blowing in every room here lol. My poor electric bill,
We have just bought a water cooler fan, you put ice blocks in. Seems to be working, TJ is laid in front of it and has stopped panting. Was looking at an aircon unit but knocking holes in walls is beyond me.
keep cool folks but enjoy the nice weather, and of course the football.

Mutt is currently driving me up the wall. During the day she's comatose - generally zonked out in the sun using my pot of bizzie lizzies as a pillow and I have to keep making her go inside to cool off.
The afternoon walk is out of the question other than round the block, so she's not getting a lot of exercise (not from want of trying, we've been to the woods where it's cooler etc and she just hurls herself on the grass and stays put. And getting the suncream on her nose is fun - I didn't know their noses could wrinke quite so much, she loathes the stuff.)
Then come 9-10pm, as I'm winding down (7.30 starts at work at the moment) she suddenly decides she's full of the joys of spring. My shoes are going everywhere (she's not run off with them in months), she's licking my feet, she's running in circles round the sitting room, and generally being a little sod.
And I'm not getting out to take her for a long walk at 10 o'clock at night even if she does need the exercise - much as I like the sun, roll on the cooler days! All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

I am so glad we have this thread, TJ is puffing and panting like an old man. But seeing that everyone else has the same problems it lets me know its the same for everyone. Our afternoon walk will take place tonight when its cooled off. Last night it was gone 11 before we went and it was still hot and muggy.
Had to laugh spike, nothing will stop TJ from eating lol, its his favorite passtime.

I have the window open, and have had a fan blowing at dog level all afternoon. The dogs have been flaked out in the vicinity of the fan for most of the afternoon, and have only started panting when they've followed me out of the room.
The sun is lovely, but the heat is just too much.0 -
I am Furious!foreign_correspondent wrote: »Good thread - you would think everyone would be clued up on this sort of stuff, but - I went to an outdoor event yesterday... they kept making announcements over the tannoy for people to return to their cars immediately as there were concerns about their dogs...
What sort of an idiot leaves a dog in a car in temperatures above 80 degrees...
unbelievable:(
What sort of idiot bothers to get on a Tanoy system to announce a dog dying in a car!?
People please, if you ever EVER see a dog in a car in weather like this.....break the window and call the police. The Police and the RSPCA are on your side and you are within your rights to break in.
Don't wander round trying to find the owner as a dog can die within a few minutes in a hot car.0 -
My CharlieCat (who's a ragdoll so very fluffy!) is having real issues with the heat! I've been putting ice in his water bowls and also been keeping filtered water in the fridge so its as cold as possible when it actually goes into his bowl. Also putting the fan at his level so he can get a bit of a breeze if he wants and keeping the curtains closed in the bedroom to try and keep the sun from coming in!
But he still seems to be suffering the poor little guy!
Would the ice towel thing be ok to use with cats as well as dogs?0 -
I would think if you can get Charliecat to lay on one it wouldnt hurt. I would give it a try if it was my kity.

My parrot also liked ice cubes in his water pot. He would play at trying to catch it, and then after it had melted he'd get confused and wonder where it went.
Cedders doesn't seem as appreciative of this (I think it makes it too cold for bathing), but Simon also likes it.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
