I am sure we have a few OU graduates around here that can offer wose words.
The course I was looking at would cost 800 quid but was PG level, so I better get saving up!!
I believe that Undergrad studies are funded by the government (which is why you see such a huge fee rise if you are studying outside of the UK) whereas post-grad stuff isn't subsidised hence why it's so damn expensive! I have my fingers crossed my company will help me out with the MSc costs
Good luck to everyone studying with the OU...I graduated early this year and it's well worth all the effort :beer:0 -
Thanks everyone for all your replies! My first course is Networked Living which combined with another 30 credit course would give me a Certificate in Information and Communications Technology. Loooooong term plan would be to work to the degree in same subject
Thanks for the link to the reckoner CIS but was as I thought I do not qualify as the rules in Scotland are different. I have applied for an ILA but that won't come through in time so will put it toward the next course.
On the plus side I spoke to the training development manager at work today (work in local government) and she says I have a chance of getting 2 years of study 50% funded AND if my manager can back me up and prove my case I could even get 2 years 100% funded :rotfl: :rotfl:
At the end of the day even if I don't get anything funded, I've worked out how much it would cost to do a degree and looking at the kind of job I would then be able to go for it would pay for itself in the first 1 or 2 years.
Thanks to EVERYONE for all your good luck messages and advice, doncha just love the people here at MSE!!!((((hugs))))

Info on what?
(undergrad) Course info? Here's a good place to start --> http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?A02Includes certificates, diplomas, degrees and the like
I'm not sure you would get funding as you already have a degree...but this link might be worth a read anyway --> http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/about/p6_2.shtml0 -
Best place to start is right here, that's what I did! By the looks of things registration generally closes about a month before a course starts i.e. October start, closes September and so on. Good luck whatever you decide!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 014Lightbulb Moment 12 December 05They may take our lives but they'll never take our FREEDOM!!0

Well done for starting a course, and I hope you do well with it.
I am leaving the military next year, so I signed up for a course last week, and luckily the military pay for it as part of my resettlement into civvy street :j0 -

No you do not get funding.
One of the first questions on the application form is "Do you already hold a first degree from a UK institution." Yes/No. If you tick "yes" then it states that you are not entitled to funding.
end of story.
You USED to get funding for a second undergraduate degree if you fulfilled other criteria. Now you don't. (Only exception is is you have 1 undergrad degree already and are a continuing student from 2003 doing a second degree who has studied every year with the OU and passed every course since 2003. then you get "transitional funding"). I reckon teh tightened up funding for people doing second undergrad degree in order to put more money in to help those wishing to embark on first degrees. I can kinda see the logic although i personally also miss out because of this.0
