  • I have a "proper job" and mystery shop around it, on weekends and on days off. To be honest I enjoy my ms work far more than my proper job! Unfortunately with mysery shopping, you cannot guarantee how much work you will get from month to month or how much money you'll make.

That's how I feel about it sometimes! :rotfl:

Hi, I did 2 jobs for Catalyst in May and have not been paid for either of them yet. Do you think I should email. I was going to but then I saw the "Warning" about emailing!!

Been speaking to ex-MIL on the phone this morning and she was asking about my degree, and I told her I finish it in October and should get the results by the end of the year.

She then asked once I pass, am I going to get a proper job?

It's narked me a bit as MS plus other field marketing work is my sole income and to me it is a proper job!

Just wondering how others see their work? Do you see it as a "proper" job?

I have to say I am a bit guilty of calling my full time job my proper job and MSing my other job. I don't mean any offence but to me I could live without MSing but not without my full time position - however, that said, if MSing was my sole income that would then become my proper job - does that make sense?? Some people don't think you have a proper job unless you are a Doctor or Lawyer! Just remember why she is your X MIL:rotfl:

I did a stamp shop for Gap yesterday morning and totally forgot to enter the results till just now :(

This is the first time I have been late with a report and I have done quite a few shops for them with various clients etc but I am wondering if this is likely to mean they sack me

I wouldn't worry. I've never submitted a Gyp report on time yet!!

Been told by everyone I've spoken to that 24 hours is the "real" deadline...

Anybody given any thought of where retailers might cut back to accomodate this?:(

Because of the fragile state of the economy mystery shopping is more important than ever.

Personally I think we will see prices slowly creep upwards between now and the increase so they can claim they have "absorbed" the extra VAT and no passed the increase on. When in reality they have but discreetly.

I think we can expect to see more competitor analysis and generally more in-depth assignments to ensure the clients get their moneys worth and use the results to maintain or build a profitable position in the Market place.

I agree completely. One of my friends tried using the "proper job" line on me the other week. I had just done a mortgage shop, met him for coffee and showed him the houses I was pretending to buy and said I really liked one.

He said "get a proper job and buy it then" I pointed out I love my job, work hard for my money and earn a lot more than he does as admin staff in a solicitors.

It's one of those misperceptions. Joe public thinks we spend all day floating around shops and that it's money for old rope. That perception couldn't be further from the truth really. We work really hard, often long unsociable hours and often it is an exact science due to the complicated briefs. Even more so for auditing - a lot of this is very specialised and I would love to see one of the naysayers try to capture hundreds of promotions in a store without being caught.

I'd give her a job to do (not a real one obviously as the agencies would jot be happy) and see if it changes her ideas!

I am meant to be completing some cinema audits this evening, but unfotunately can not do them (for a legitimate reason). How will this go down with the company that cannot be named (well I think it is the company, but since I don't know the company that can not be named and am only presuming it is the same!) Tonight is the last night to complete them.
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

Depends how good the "legitimate reason" is I guess, but you'll probably be ok, but I guess it depends how many other people also had "legitimate reasons" for not doing them? I think they usually do more than they need, to allow for failed audits, but when the number of failed audits is high, I'd assume (hope?) they clamp down.

I reckon you'll be ok if it's a decent reason (as it sounds like it is).

They pay the end of the month following the job. So you should get paid this week. I'm waiting on a job I did at the beginning of May.

If you have worked for them for a while and have a proven track record you should be fine. If you are new or have done this before then I doubt you will get offered much more work from them.

I would e mail and call them tomorrow to explain what happened.
