I did a stamp shop for Gap yesterday morning and totally forgot to enter the results till just now :(

This is the first time I have been late with a report and I have done quite a few shops for them with various clients etc but I am wondering if this is likely to mean they sack me

You'll probably be OK - they usually send a reminder email if you are late and don't get too shirty unless you ignore that!

However, with Gap its a bit of a case of 'how long is a piece of string' - they do the daftest things at times.

Been speaking to ex-MIL on the phone this morning and she was asking about my degree, and I told her I finish it in October and should get the results by the end of the year.

She then asked once I pass, am I going to get a proper job?

It's narked me a bit as MS plus other field marketing work is my sole income and to me it is a proper job!

Just wondering how others see their work? Do you see it as a "proper" job?
Here I go again on my own....

Not sure if this helps to put your mind at rest:

In the past when I have said that I can't do an urgent job because there is no way I get results in by the 8-hour deadline, people at Gap have said that the time limit doesn't matter, and they have actually told me the the following morning would be OK. This has been said to me by at least three different allocators. A couple of times, they have phoned me to check that I have done the visit, and re-confirmed that delayed submission was OK.

But, as we all know, Gap have some very flexible rules (at their end, but not at ours) and are not renowned for consistency!

I definitely see it as a "proper" job, but have also come up against the attitude you got from your ex-MIL.

I have an elderly father with dementia and my brother thinks it's fine for me to take calls from the carers in the day as he's "just too busy as he works". And of course I don't .

We all do MSing for different reasons, and when people with "proper jobs" finish at 5 o'clock and put their feet up, we are still working entering reports and checking for new jobs, etc. Don't let comments like that bother you Becles. We work bl**dy hard and earn every penny!
  • I have a "proper job" and mystery shop around it, on weekends and on days off. To be honest I enjoy my ms work far more than my proper job! Unfortunately with mysery shopping, you cannot guarantee how much work you will get from month to month or how much money you'll make.
