could you use the same pin for all cards such as using existing pin on debit card for credit cards too

Of course you can (not my words) that of Sandra Quinn the spokesperson for the Chip & PIN system on Radio 5.

Prior to the C&P launch, Sandra during an interview said "My Husband uses the same PIN for all his cards"

I still can't honestly see the advantage to the individual of using a PIN with a credit card.

    Reasons are:

    1. If your PIN is used in a transaction you challenge, although the rules have changed slightly, you still may find your arguing the toss over how a crook got hold of your PIN.

    2. There's been examples in these forms of people (who do use the same PIN for several cards) popping the wrong card into an ATM. An expensive mistake.

    3. A genuine Credit Card with a PIN is far more valuable to a crook than a card without a PIN. Simply because they can hit ATM's and are never challenged. So you have to ask the question is it safer to PIN or to Sign.

If you never need to use a Credit Card for cash from an ATM, why not get yourself Chip & Signature Cards?

    It's your choice.
  • I hate using credit card chip and pin - too many pins nowadays and it's not safe to use the same pin for everything.

    Chip & Signature anyone?

Well, yes in Cape Town when i went nearly all places are chip and sign, but perhaps if we did that in the uk Banks would have less chance of wriggling out when things go wrong, through no fault of our own.
never put off buying a bargain today,it may be gone tomorrow

It's with great sadness I make this posting, but it's not the first time it's happened.

TWO brutal murderers have been jailed for at least 32 years each for torturing and killing a man after he refused to reveal his bank card PIN number.

Not good, I would give them all the cards and PINs if violence was threatened...

What a n0b too getting all the alcohol delivered to his house?!

Blame the drugs and alcohol I guess.
  • I've got an Abbey Card and my chip broke. They took forever to send me a new one and some places were letting me sign for it but others were adamant I had to have a chip that works to purchase anything. Absolute nightmare. Bring back the swipe and sign I say!
  • I still think that signing cards is safer than chip and pin
  • Anyone know if I can use my Vanquis card without the PIN? I just received it (my first one) and activated it, however I've not received the PIN for it yet. NB I've not had a credit card for years, so didn't realise that the Chip and PIN thing applied to credit cards as well as debit cards! Hmmmm, makes me a bit nervous that nothing seems to be signed for these days.

Not in this country, no. You can use it overseas in countries like America and Australia which don't have chip and pin.
