Bigger packs are not better value

I've just been round Morrisons, and the licorice allsorts have gone up from £2 per box to £3.99, but they are on offer at 2 for £6.
Do the supermarkets get together and fix the price of their offers so they are all the same?0 -
Just been to Iceland for some milk, and the boxes in there are 2 for £4.
Didn't have as big a selection in my store, but it's still £2 cheaper!0 -
Tesco have some very strange pricing on Kenco coffee. One would assume that refill packs would be cheaper than the jars per 100g right? Nope. Even jars containing less coffee than the refill packs are sometimes cheaper.
One would assume that larger jars of coffee would be cheaper than smaller jars right? Nope again. At the moment, 200g jars cost less per 100g than the 300g jar. The differential is so big in fact, that buying 2 200g jars is only about 50p more expensive than buying the 300g jar, i.e. an extra 100g is costing 50p, rather than £2.30 odd!
Basically always check the per 100g cost, and if you want to go green...remember they (and probably other supermarkets) seem to want to fleece you for the privilege...0 -
i got the eco refill from mr t on 2 for £5 and used two 50p off coupons from post #2 here to make the coffee £2 per 150g pack otherwise the refills are more expensive than the jars!Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320

The offers are usually negotiated with the manufactorers so they will usually agree the same deal with a range of supermarkets or shops. This is the reason you sometimes get special deals that would actually cost more than the current single unit price.0 -

What have the manufacturers got to do with it?
You go into the shop at 3:30 and they have shelves full of sweets at £2 per box, from different manufacturers. Then the next morning they have gone up to £3.99 and are on "special offer" at 2 boxes for £6.
They are the same boxes of sweets that were £2 the day before, unless they sold their entire stock in the last half hour of trading on Sunday.
I have no doubt they will go down to £2 or £3 per box after the offer ends.
I have no doubt it it the supermarkets and nothing to do with the manufacturers. Otherwise how did little old Iceland get a better deal than two big boys like Morrisons and ASDA.
Iceland are selling them for 2 boxes for £4.0 -
Needed to return a faulty electrical item to Tesco today. Had a list of about half a dozen things I needed, one of which was.........
Normal sized (1kg) bag of granulated sugar.
Tesco Extra - 98p (!!!!!)
ALDI - 68p
Local corner shop - 90p
With their buying power? I swear never to go there again unless it is to take advantage of a great glitch that loses them money.
(Needless to say, I did not buy the sugar - and ended up getting very little because I was so annoyed! Thank goodness for my new, very local ALDI.)"Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." Aldous Huxley.

Not sure, but I walked out of Morrisons this week as the sugar they had on the shelves was well over £1...can't remember exact price, but nearer £1.50 mark as far as I can remember.
It is 98p in Tesco's, but at the moment you can buy 2 for £1.300 -
It's only 68p in Iceland too.
I've noticed all year that sugar in Morrisons was much more than in Iceland, but they kept having offers where buy two was the same price as buying two in Iceland.
I think they just inflate the price of one to encourage us to buy two.0 -
