Hi
I've not been reading this thread for a while, so I may have missed something important.
It's been a long, cold winter, but our kitchen has been particularly nippy, this year. Our neighbours have been away for the whole winter, whilst builders have knocked their kitchen to pieces, exposing it to the elements ( no door or window!)
Would this have something to do with our freezing kitchen, which adjoins theirs?0 -
almost certainly..... if their kitchen was in use (and sealed) then heat from their side would help heat the partition wall. As theirs is exposed to the elements, it means heat from your kitchen is being sucked straight through and lost (so it's like having an extra external wall -- and this one may well be thinner as well as not being insulated).
In fact, them being away almost certainly means there's been less (if any) heat from their property helping with any of the partion walls between you -- so you'd have needed quite a lot of extra heating to keep your own home at the 'normal' temperature.Cheryl0 -

Living in an end terrace as I do.I'd say it certainly would.
Our outside walls have been freezing this year.0 -
I'm end terrace too and my elderly neighbour this year went into a home and unfortunately recently died.
Meaning that I have effectively had no neighbours at all.
I have noticed that my house has been really cold this year.0 -

I keep my stove on all year round --only let it go out in the very warmest weather, and we didnt have any last summer LOL.. I think that the bricks heat up and the house stays warmer this way.
Plus of course it takes a huge amount f coal to get it going again because its a big stove.0 -
I have been monitoring my usage over the last few weeks after having received my winter bill which also happens to be on of my anniversary bill for my dd budget plan (mine are 6 monthly).
My dd has been increased by £20 per month, as there was a deficit.
I have started to put more things on overnight when I have Economy 7.
It was all too easy to just stick the dishwasher or washer on there and then rather than think about setting the timer.
The bread machine now aslo works overnight and then I just bake off in the oven when I get up utilising the Economy 7, and I also put a batch of cakes in with it.
In doing this I have found that this last months usage has reduced compared to the month before.
Hopefully now the warmer weather is coming and we will be eating more salads etc we can get the deficit cleared and then on the next anniversary bill which comes 6 monthly the dd can be reduced.
We have also fished out the USB cables for the mobile phones so that they can be charged whilst the PC is on, rather than charging them separately. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
Well, our heating gets switched off for the summer on 1st May, unless it's horrendously cold. Have needed a little bit of evening heat these past few weeks though as I've had masses of vegetable seedlings on our large bay window in the lounge which needed to germinate.0
