Avoid using GAS and ELECTRIC !

Totally agree that different makes and designs operate at totally different brightness levels. The ones in my hallway are supposed to be the same but are different makes. One is always brighter than the other (so the brighter one is at the front door end of the hall, and the dimmer one is just outside the living room doorway -- meaning less glare on the TV screen).Cheryl0

We have a blizzard outside and the wind is rising. Am so lovely and cosy on the couch but I want tea and that means moving through to the arctic regions in the back of the house.....!0

Mardatha.....once you work up the enthusiasm, you could make double use of the arctic expedition....fill a flask while you are there to save the bother (and the gas/electricity) later!0

I have been recording my meter readings for three weeks now. On monday I found gas very slightly up but electric down at last since I stopped using fan oven. Recording readings each week is such a good way to save energy I am looking each day for small ways to trim it down. The site I go on tells me the cost each week and last week I was within my direct debit. I still use dishwasher every other day but on a lower setting but do not use tumble drier very often. Electric blanket is switched to a lower setting just to take the chill off. It was warm in here this morning so did not put heating on, three hours gas saved.
When I think how wasteful I was in the past I could kick myself.

I hate them Primrose, they give me depression they're so feeble LOL
Same here. Couldn't stand the gloom. A friend gave me one of her 32 watt Daylight Bulbs and told me to take down the light shade from the ceiling light in the centre of the room before putting it in. It made such a difference that even after discovering that they cost £10 a bulb my mood didn't fade. The family have been told where to get them and that I will happily accept light bulbs as all future birthday and Christmas gifts.:j0 -
I needed a new 100w screw in bulb for my bathroom fitting.I'm another one who hates the energy saving bulbs.I tried everywhere but could'nt get a bulb.I had to resort to an energy saving one, however it's a 70w which gives out the same light as the 100w regular.I don't mind these as they realy do give off the same brightness of 100w.I only paid £2.99 for it at John Lewis so I thought it was a bargain.I just hope they are going to be a regular thing.0

Annie2005, where do you buy the Daylight Bulbs please? My Mum always says that her bedroom is so dark that it makes her feel depressed as soon as she wakes up, even when the sun is shining. I must admit that her bedroom is an odd shape and the window is not very big, so if a Daylight Bulb could boost her mood, it would be worth the investment!
Thankyou in anticipation,

I wouldn't mind an energy efficient daylight bulb for my craft room.....
I was using a standard daylight bulb, but there was only one shop near work I could get them at. So when my last one blew while I was off on extended sick I changed to using normal energy efficient bulbs -- and it's the only room in the house where I have a problem with the light given by theseCheryl0 -
The last daylight bulb I bought was at John Lewis. You could try there if you have one near you.Their lighting department is usually good for every type of bulb.0
