I am just about to go and put my thermals on. Not too low temperature-wise here but the damp and gloom is chilling

I have really really regretted not buying thermals at the end of the summer... I have had tights on/vests/layers of socks/t'shirts etc... but I am willing to bet thermals would have been better....

I will be getting some for next winter

Don't laugh, but when I was a kid with only the one fire in the living room, I used to wear a balaclava to bed...(as well as the mandatory tights, socks, pyjamas, vests and jumpers...!!)

Rainy Monday so browsing thru the forums! Lots of really good tips - Thankx! I saw the tips on using steamers - bought mine from Asda about 8 years ago for the caravan - best £9.99 ever spent!! I also added another one I bought in a charity chop so sometimes I have 3/4 levels steaming away!! Someone also commented on the insulating qualities of newspaper - if you live in accomodation with suspended wooden floors a good layer of newspaper under the carpet makes a great difference to the warmth & draughts
    Keep up the good work!

Just a thought - I've been reading about all the mountains of waste paper that can't be recycled 'cos of the drop in price and how it costs to store it. Couldn't they be turned into 'briquettes' for burning on a large scale? We are able to buy compost thats been recycled by our councils why not use the waste paper too - it could be used to heat care homes, public places that still use boilers or be re-sold?(I 'spose someone will say its not cost efficient!)

Yategirl - if you have either Prim@rk or T J HUghes stores anywhere near you, they sell thermals at a good price - both about £4.95 for seperates ( M & S sell them too but are about £10)..

  • Well it's been realy warm and sunny here today, you'd think Spring had arrived.Just come back from my daughters and we have'nt needed the heating on at all today.
I got all my washing dried and ironed which was a bonus.
I just hope the nice weather will last at least another day.It just makes you feel so much better.I've not needed to wear loads of clothes today,I'd almost forgotton what I look like without all those layers and a big cardi.
Just wondering Mardatha, how you were getting on with your dehumidifyer.

Is nice & sunny here too mrs LM but its a freezing cold wind & white frost lying.
The DM has been a huge success, in an unexpected way. It doesn't seem to collect a lot of water apart from the bathroom after baths -so my house isnt really damp. But it has an ioniser - and that is a joy , the air feels cleaner and much fresher, and it clears steam & cooking smells very fast. I am pleased I got it :)
