the windows in the hallway are actually patterned glazing so we have a little privacy already there - the bubblewrap just adds to that and the warmth!!
decided i am going to bubblewrap the kitchen door and the bathroom window too!
we have a really cold spare bedroom(where the pc is kept) so i get really cold in there, esp at night and im even contemplating bubblewrapping this window too, although DH reckons we should get some of that double glazing film instead and try that and if it works, do the 2 huge living room windows and our bedroom window - im just a bit reluctant to do this as what if it doesn't work, ill have wasted a bit of money but if i bubble wrap instead then
i won't have spent too much on it(£1 for 3 metres from Instore + staff discount on top!!)0 -
hi when you cook a gammon in the slow cooker do you still have to leave it in water over night to remove the salt before cooking
Always used to soak them (especially the value ones), but didn't have time the first go at using the slow cooker (last minute pick-up of a value one and going out for the day). I don't salt anything (or use it in anything except my bread machine) and even I didn't notice it hadn't been soaked.......Cheryl0 -

Thanks mardatha, it is scrumptious. Very rich and warming.
The remainder is in tupperware at the back of the fridge.
It is quite cold and windy here and rained really hard earlier, so that type of meal is just ideal now.
Next, I'm going to cook oxtail casserole in the slow cooker, using a similar recipe and adding a tin of cannelini beans.

Tempting as then I'd have £40 in the bank account for gas later on when it's really cold (the joys of prepay). It's not been on at all yet.
I might get outvoted though (even though I pay for the gas and leccy)
However I'm definitely going to go for not putting it on for more than an hour a day for as long as physically possible.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Yes, we'll try and aim for November 1st too, but not if we're going to end up being discovered as hythermic corpses. It's not that we can't afford to pay the bills; it's a sort of challenge to beat the system for as long as possible. So if we have to give in, I'll put all my clothes on the radiator, so when it comes on just for an hour in the morning I can climb into something warm, and with the thermals, we might just be able to survive with an hour's heat in the evening as well. And I'll go to bed early and use the heat of the duvet instead!0

Mother-in-law has asked to come and visit us, but I have told her we will come over there, Take way we will save money on heating and food:rotfl:

Lol
I set up this challenge to myself last month i thinka dn so far havent had it on - i find our flat snuggly as our upstairs neighbour seems to be caving and putitng his heating on and we steal some of his heat as his heating runs through his floor - our roof - so its not too bad.
I currently have the water on for a bath later on adn my oven going with a jacket spud in it for mine and little ones tea so have the kitchen door open and its heating the living room nicely. I am lucky in that i have all of 6 rooms to heat- the hallway - dog sleeps in here, I dont bother to heat it though
- our room - radiator doesnt work so room is not heated
- bens room - radiator is on mild and his window re insulated.fleeces on bed, pyjamas etc
- bathroom - heating is on - dog has access to it and where we dry our clothes in winter
- living room - two radiators only one is switched on and used
- kitchen - door left open so any heat in here can go into living room - computer is near kitchen door so when boiler is on it leaks through into living room plus living room insulated etc
Time to find me again0 -
