What did you put in with the gammon please?
Sometimes I put in a litre of coke. NOT diet stuff, but cheapo cola is fine. Gives the gammon a lovely sweet smokey flavour. It will colour the joint a little, but it is scrumptious! If I had a pound for every...... oh sod it, if I just had a pound I'd be richer!0 -
oh my god that sounds lovely ParsonsWife... drooling here !0

i had bubble wrapped the front door(all glazed) and the windows to the side of it, he asked what the hell i was doing, told him that it would help to insulate the hallway a little bit, he didn't believe me until later last night when he walked through the hallway and felt how warm it was in there!!
he is now happy for me to leave it as he thinks it will work when it gets even colder!!
I may try this. First on the upstairs bedroom windows, and maybe later in the year on one of the downstairs windows. I'm not willing to give up my view from the front room.:beer:0 -
We've broken down and turned on the heat at night... it's getting down into the single digits and the toddler has woken up crying a few times when he's kicked his blankets off.
I'd like to turn off the radiators that aren't in the bedroom but my husband has been sleeping in the lounge and gets cold at night. (Nothing wrong with the marriage - I'm just hauling my pregnant butt to the toilet too many times a night for him to get any sleep. LOL):beer:0 -
I would love to have the TV on much less, as I know it uses a lot of energy, but when it's rainy it's the only thing that keeps the kids sane and my husband is the sort of man who likes to watch telly all evening and then fall asleep in front of it. This is somethng I really want to change, as I don't like the constant noise. It's a small house and there's nowhere to escape the noise. I feel resentful, sometimes, that I have to allow advertising and all manner of junk into my head, 24 hours a day, but other people in the family feel differently.:beer:0

Thanks to a few Indian Summer days, we've so far managed to stick to our resolve not to switch the central heating on until October 1st - and tomorrow is October 1st!. Will I have some more iron discipline and try and last out until November 1st? Don't think so, but the thick sweaters and thermals will certainly be brought into action first.0

I've been numb for two days so I don't think I'll be able to hold out much longer but I will try (stubborn like that!). Might give the bubblewrap on the front door a go!
BrandNewDay have you thought about a baby sleeping bag? Then he won't wake you to put the covers back.0 -
hi when you cook a gammon in the slow cooker do you still have to leave it in water over night to remove the salt before cooking

I would second that, Skint-Catt ,about baby sleeping bags, they do keep them really snuggly and no worries about kicking covers off, my lo is in a lovely thick one with a sleepsuit under, also with fleecy blanket under his sheet and no probs yet without heating0

We cook gammon in the pressure cooker, rather than a slow cooker but always soak it in cold water overnight first, to remove surplus salt. And then we save the water in which it's cooked for stock, as a savoury base for lentil soup.0
