next thing to in is a gammon joint tomorrow morning so that it's ready to eat when we all get home
Just don't expect to carve it easily - it crumbles rather than slicesI only do my gammon in there now even if I'm at home - no need to watch the pan doesn't boil over
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

What did you put in with the gammon please?0 -
just water to about half way up the joint. thought about adding an onion, but my son isn't keen on the things -- I get away with chopping them finely in with mince, but if he sees one 'swimming' in a pan he tends to 'not like' whatever the main thing is :eek:Cheryl0

I am resisting turning on the heating, but it is distinctly chilly this morning, trying to leave it until the end of October - we will see as snow is forecast in Scotland, so obviously turning much colder.
I have had a slow cooker for years and use it all the time, all my veg are cooked in the steamer. My latest addition to the kitchen is a Remoska, and it is fabulous. I cannot cook sausages under the grill as I always burn them, but the Remoska cooks them to perfection. Also, on the days that I work, I set a timer to turn the Remoska on and cook meals from scratch, or reheat ready made ones. :T
I was working yesterday, so put leftover cooked chicken, mushrooms, onions and a curry mix in, set the Remoska to turn on an hour before we wanted to eat, and then just heated some 2 minute rice in the microwave. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Dh gets up early and it has been cold so we have the heating on for an hour early in the morning. It makes getting up much nicer. We were both brought up with only one source of heat (open fire) and we both hate getting up in the cold!
I have a slow cooker bought for £5 at a boot sale. It is great, I cook my beans in it. Stews etc. all good.0 -
OH and I found some half price partridges, 3 chicken thighs and 3 drumsticks for 89p and 6 venison sausages yesterday. Also 3 lamb's kidneys for 75p and a pack of root veg, containing a swede, a parsnip, 3 large carrots and an onion.
I cooked the lot in my slow cooker, using some beef and chicken stock, seasoning, red wine, thyme and bay leaves in the slow cooker yesterday, a sort of hunter's casserole.
It was delicious and there is enough for about 6 adult portions with some mash or boiled potatoes on the side.
Eating some, together with a nice glass of red wine, went a long way to keeping out the cold.

I read that digital radios are very power-hungry so have put mine away and am using my wind-up radio in the kitchen and bathroon instead.0

last night my DH got home from work and i think he thought i was going crazy!!
i had bubble wrapped the front door(all glazed) and the windows to the side of it, he asked what the hell i was doing, told him that it would help to insulate the hallway a little bit, he didn't believe me until later last night when he walked through the hallway and felt how warm it was in there!!
he is now happy for me to leave it as he thinks it will work when it gets even colder!!0
