I've just worked out that over the last 3 months we have used less than 3/4 electricity compared to the previous 3 months - simply by making sure everything and anything that could be on standby is turned off and avoiding using the oven - hoorah0

Well this morning whilst I was baking I hung all my washing on airers and put it in front of the oven.....bun scented washing mmmmmmmmmmmmm .I will try anything to avoid using the dryer (which is buried at the back of the garage so I cant get to it!) I have a supply of yummy scented candles from ikea that give off a nice cosy light whilst watching tv so no lights need to be on. Everything that isnt being used is getting switched off and my new eco kettle has arrived. I doubt any of this is going to lower my bills because the cost of energy has gone up so dramatically.....I am just hoping that they dont increase either .My main aim is to keep them the same as for last winter
by using less energy. I am determind that the heating isnt going on until the end of oct at least! Luckily it isnt too cold here yet.JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Same here we've managed to cut a third off our electric bill over two quarters. This is just by not leaving anything on standby. It makes me sick just to think what we've paid out on wasted electricity over the years.Never again.0 -
I'm not bothering with the foil behind the radiators as we won't be having the heating on. I'm not very mobile, but intend to wrap up nice and warmly. I've set the heating thermostat for 11.5 C during the day and 5 C at night. I reckon if it goes below that indoors then we'll need it.
My main problem is going to be my hands. I'm wondering about getting fingerless gloves, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I don't mind sitting or sleeping in gloves, but it's a problem typing!

Without sounding awful but I really feel for the people who cannot afford to have there house warm at a suitable level, your house is going to be no warmer than a fridge. I think its a disgrace what the energy companys are doing and the goverment just doesnt care.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
I'm all-electric, with an immersion heater and storage heaters. To avoid using the immersion heater, I use the shower, and also boil up water in the kettle for washing-up. One kettleful of hot water for the main wash-up, and another kettleful of boiling water for rinsing, and it's all done. The clean, boiled rinse water can then be used for washing out tights etc.
Any other boiled water from the kettle or from boiling eggs, goes in the Thermos for later hand-washing etc.0 -
Thanks for the tips
I'll add this to the existing "Saving Energy" thread to keep ideas together.

try a bucket and a bowl in the bathroom. Honest!!! it works very well
The mixing bowl from T at about 90p and the £1.85 oval bucket
My dh and me have been surprised at how much water we can collect from our daily ablutions. A bit here and there via the sink taps and more from the shower. We end up with enough to flush the en suite loo at least twice0
