Re. chimney sweeps i had mine done a couple of years ago and the kids were here and found it fascinating! They didnt make any mess at all cos they seal the whole fireplace off;)

Thanks for the solar shower link. Mine arrived today which I am going to give to my sister and SIL as they are keen campers as a present for a certain festival which shall remain nameless in August:D

Can I join in?:j Need to sort shower and also have our chimney swept as it is still original open (though not in use) in our bedroom, the thought of chimney sweeps and small children though. It can wait till kids are back at school. :D

I thought for a minute that you were sending small children up the chimney as in the olden days
What a tempting thought. Kids out of my way and the chimney swept at the same time;)

Sarahsaver- don't suppose you remember how much it cost do you?

I've just bought 10m x 1.5m of thick material from Abakahan fabrics on clearance for £5 :D Its bright red and I'm going to use it to make curtains for the kitchen, 2 doors, a serving hatch (one each side ;) ) and if there is enough I'll even recover my dining chairs - next stop some thicker curtains for the livingroom - already seen them in red matching material in TJ Hughes :D I would have got them today but the fabric was too heavy for me to cart around to go and get the curtains :rotfl::rotfl: These should go nicely with the red velvet curtains I already use on the back and front doors which were donated by ex-MIL last winter :D

Now I just have to wait for DD to go back to school before I make them up ;)

Love the place :o! My OH dreads me ever going in there - he says it's like a black hole in space and I forget the way out again  . Love their embroidered taffeta :) - makes fabulous rich cushion covers.

Do any of you lot read your leccy meter and gas meters regularly??

Sad but i do:o . I recieved a massive bill 18 month ago and now take a check either daily or every 2 days just to make sure all is in check. 18 months ago we were using 33 units of leccy a day:eek: i then realised we had a faulty tumble dryer as everytime i used it, it used upto 3 units per hour. I got rid of that bought a new one to be used only when necessary. My electricity went down to 18 now its around 10 and 12 per day. Just for simple things like switching of lights, tv when not in use, pc etc....i now sound like my mum and dad "its not blackpool illuminations you know":rotfl: I also from my readings know roughly what my bills are going to be as i know exactly how many units i have used.:o

Now to start reading my gas meter. Never had to do it as my bills are pretty low or they were lets see how they come in now!

Maybe a new thread, leccy and gas usage challenge would keep us motivated to switch things off????
You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

Funny, my parents used to say the exact same phrase about Blackpool Illuminations :D . But have you ever wondered, is it only a northern phrase, or do folks 'down south' use it as well :rotfl: ?

I'd certainly be up for a 'leccy and gas challenge' - recently reorganised my computer electrics so that I can switch them all off at night with one 'flick of a switch' like I do with my tv etc. Should only really need to leave the fridge/freezers on overnight AND my little low energy nightlight (I'm NOT falling over the damn cat in the dark on the landing when I have to get up in the middle of the night!). Even considering getting an ordinary plug-in phone - dect phones would be no darn use in a power cut anyway!

Seriously need to sort out OH about leaving radios on in every room in the house when he's listening to the flaming cricket  .

Buy him a personal radio with headphones (you should be able to get one for under a fiver). Then you won't have to listen to the flaming cricket :rotfl:
