So - I think that means that I pay about 75% of 9p per hour I use my cooker oven quote]

how/who with do you get electricity for 9p? I pay 19p

just read my cost correctly on edf:o , 19p for the first 222 units then 11p for the rest.
so cooking not 20p hour but still more expensive! wished I'd capped a while ago....sulks off for expensive bath...

Hmmmm...will have to go and check me figures....thought my memory told me that was what I have to pay per unit....perhaps its let me down on that one. Will have to have a looksee. I am just in the process of swopping to Scottish Power - that 2009 deal that has now been withdrawn.

I know I am basing my ideas on what my electric will cost on the bit after the first batch of units (ie the more expensive lot that one has initially - as their way of getting a "standard charge" from us by the back door).

If I'm paying the same sorta figures you are - that would mean a very rough figure of 9p to bake my bread.

Found my deal I am swopping to - will have to hunt round in that for the info for sure:

I had one of those 25 years ago, Given to me when my washing machine stopped working and I couldn't afford another one.

It worked ok for things you would put in a quick wash, but for my toddlers clothes hand scrubbing in the sink was more effective.
They might have improved over the years but I doubt it.

I suppose they would be ok for refreshing clothes ie those that aren't visibly soiled or stained.

I think I read somewhere that they can do 8 shirts at a time so that must be quicker than handwashing if they only take 2 minutes (or two minutes worth of turning) to wash. Ok, you have to do the same again to rinse so 4 minutes really.

    :)

Does anyone know roughly how much it costs to boil one litre of water in your average kettle?

I boiled a full kettle this morning to make one drink but........ before you say what a waste, I put the rest of the hot water into a flask.

I opened the flask a couple of hours ago and the water was still steaming hot, too hot to put my hand into the water.

Just used it to degrease the casserole dish that I used for tea.

May be worth just filling a couple of flasks to use for washing up at tea time instead of putting the hot water on.

I've been boiling my kettle to make coffee in the morning and then making up a flaskful for the rest of the day with the remaining water. Need to get another flask now to make tea for OH!

a handy table Annie. Those things that work on thermostats like the oven will use less. I calculate half that for a full oven at about 180 but the oven is still a massive user of energy

the remoska costs very roughly 6p an hour
the bm about 5p for a loaf
pressure cooker on induction hob about 3p for a thick soup

the energy meter is good for measuring cost while usage is fluctuating

my 36" led tv on its own (no sky or vcr) about 2p an hour

lol: warm water from my new converted solar shower 0 pence

useful links, the last one is really good as you can put in the specific model you use for appliances

    Thanks :T

I can't find info on my washing mashine or dishwasher on any websites - I can find reviews but not anything to do with running costs. Even the Indesit and Whirlpool websites don't have any info on them. WM is approx 3 years old, DW is approx 5 years old.

re washing machine and dishwasher. I will use my trusty plug in meter and come back here with accurate costings re my electricity/kwh cost which is still 12.72p/kwh. I am putting the dishwasher on at 60 in a couple of minutes and I also wait with baited breath

we have removed all radiators from upstairs because we found heat rises from downstairs. This has left us with 4 down stairs . 3 of them we have turned off. This leaves us with one in our living room whcih will be used ONLY if the weather gets extreamly cold.
We have pulled out our gas fire and tiled the hole in the wall so I can sit candles in there , which will heat the room with the door closed.
We will also have throws on the sofa.

We will retire into that room with a flask of tea ;) .

Also , my friend lives across the road and we have agreed that when it becomes so cold we will spend one evening at her house and they will spend one evening at our house each week :rotfl: .
    Kindness costs nothing :)
