Mrs M I have a wind up/mains DAB/FM radio. DAB lasts for a very very short time on a full wind up compared to FM so DAB is very energy thirsty
ps my solar shower was outside in weak sun for maybe half an hour and it was warm enough for all the crumby plates, cereal bowls, cups and mugs. I am very pleased with it. No good in dull light and rain0 -
In the battle between door handle and handbag strap far better to knacker the bag than let the handle feel it's won!
This always makes me giggle - sorry :rotfl:
I would have thought though that you whould have been better having a quick blast of heat into the room your staying, and making sure you have things like draft excluders, curtains etc in place to help retain the heat
Failign that have you turned off radiators in any specific rooms - like we for example only heat our living room, our sons room is on medium temp and the bathroom but the thermostat never really goes above 18. So our room (the radiator has never worked since we moved in and now has a 3 seater heavy settee in teh way of it) and the hallway are left unheated but the bathroom door is left open for heat to seap out into hallway for the dog, just to take the chill off in the room. Plus we make sure then that we dont really have to go out of the room/flatso we dont allow the heat to escapeTime to find me again0 -
we`re with BG and capped until 2010, our payment has gone down from £36 to £28 per month.0

I'm very confused about the power savings quoted for low energy light bulbs. We have completely switched over in our house, apart from the bathroom where the light fitting is impracticable. Since I've always been careful to switch lights off as I leave a room, the light is usually only on in occupied rooms. So, I suspect our electricity savings are probably not as great as we would like to believe.0

primrose, I found that it was lots of small things added together that made the biggest difference. Pennies here and there but all adding up to a lot

Kittie, did you say yours tells you how much it costs to run items without manually working it out?
Does it look like any of these for sale on ebay?

I'm on that plan too. We pay £26 per month.
We are on economy 7 as well.'Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle'0 -
HI, got a reply from the other board to say to switch off the bloomin immersion and let the gas boiler heat the water. Will let you know if it saves money on our electricity! On a really positive note, went into the local RSPCA shop to get some old curtains to make sausages for the doors, and picked up a ready made one for £1.50. As I am saying a lot these days "You couldnt make it for that!" Loving this thread!
Also got a book out of the library opublished by Collins, called "Complete Energy Saving DIY" (purchase price on bak £9.99), seems to be a brand new book and has lots of ideas. REally determined to get our bills down. I am heartily sick of paying a bloomin fortune for what I consider essentials, like food, petrol and fuel, and then having !!!!!! all left to actually enjoy life a little. Rant over. This site has honestly changed my whole attitude to money.0 -
My fence panels came down in the storms and we broke them up and put them on Freecycle for anyone wanting to burn them. A really nice lady collected it and it saved me a trip to the dump. Now thats what I call sensible use of waste.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
