White vinegar would probably be the best to use as it will help break calcium deposits too.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Thank you.
I think it's capfuls0 -
I find using soda crystals makes mine more smelly even on a really hot wash. I'll try vinegar next. I have used bleach before - a capful in the drum. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

I just leave the washing machine door open for a few hours after the wash so the drum etc dries out - no smell, no black mould on the rubber door seal. I use one of those deep clean sachets every couple of months (if I remember !)0

when my washer starts to hum, i use an empty hot wash, liquid detergent and bleach.
I think low temp washes, machine may not empty 100% and perhaps a little backfill to create a pong!!!
I always dry my rim with kitchen paper or rag.0 -
I'd agree with ERICS MM, I think good airflow is the most critical factor. Since I've made a point of drying the machine as much as possible, and leaving the door open, I've totally eliminated any smell. ( fingers crossed, touch wood ....... any more incantations anyone lol)You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0
