2004 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi. July to date. Mainly town driving in 3rd gear at 30mph. Occasional 50 or 75 mile M-way trips in 5th gear at 70mph. Average to date = 53.95 mpg. Also only 116g/Km of CO2, so £30 VED.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

2006 Clio Dci 68 bhp, 59mpg, mostly around town and some country roads.
2005 Mondeo 130 hp TDCi, 48mpg, mostly around town and country roads.
2004 Subaru Legacy 138bhp Auto, 32mpg, mostly around town and country roads.
1997 Hyundai Accent 1.3 Auto, 35 mpg, mostly around towen and country roads, the same usage as the Clio Dci above.
    Work vehicles for a laugh

97-01 LDV Convoy V8 Auto Ambulance, 6-11 mpg, mostly aorund town, can be seen getting sold on eBay as campers, with the seller insisting they can get 25mpg on a run, snigger............

05-07 Vauxhall Zafira 120 CDTi Design Auto, 16-18mpg, mostly around town, providing the engine management stays off long enough to get a figure.

On the subject of smaller engined vehicles, we have had 2.7 Sprinters since late 2003, auto box, etc. The new 2.2 Sprinters that we have had for the last 18 monthys use more fuel than the 2.7's, but we got them due to the co2 being lower, sadly we don't use them in a laboratory in Germany, but in the real world.

They are just short of 20bhp less powerful, with a lot less torque, and they weigh a bit more.

My wifes Clio actually gives less mpg on a run on fast roads, it is only the 68bhp model, so you have to hammer it to keep it up to speed, it will be getting chipped up to 84bhp soon, as a mate with a similar 84bhp model gets an easy 65mpg on a run.

No, wished I did, drove them at work for the last decade, I even prefered them to the newer Sprinters, the later LDV's still came with Carbs, even in 2001, was always funny when the young Unibods turned up and couldn't get them to start, you then asked them if they pulled out the choke and they just looked at you with a blank expression.

The '99 and '01s should have come with the 3.9EFi from the Range Rover but there was an argument between the LAS and LDV about who would pay for the development of the bigger brakes, result they stuck with the 3.5, they even had to restrict them, there was a restrictor underneath the carb and in the exhaust, when removed they can wheelspin in the dry, even with the Autobox.

Nothing beats a big V8 on full chat, happy days.............................
