I'm trying to get an understanding of what people are actually obtaining for largely in town driving in their small cars on a regular basis. If you can help out, please post your data in this thread.
Ideally I'd like to see:
Ford Fiesta 1.25 petrol 5 door 2009 12k miles per annum getting 37.5 mpg around town
but please add in any extra data you think might be useful. Thanks.

Nissan Micra, 1.3 petrol, 3 door, 1999, c16k per annum, getting 42 mpg for slightly too fast motorway driving (usually 80-90mph, would get more mpg if I slowed down a bit) and it was around 47-49 mpg when I was driving mostly around town and on a few country roads.
I work out the fuel consumption every time I fill up, I'm a bit obsessive about it for some reason even though there's nothing I can do to bring the cost of petrol down or to drive fewer miles0 -
citreon c1 - getting around 55mpg, mostly motorway miles.Mortgage £242500 on completion
FD CC 11/2014 £5900 (£3900 after BT)
FD loan Approx £5700
Deeply depressing total - £2541000 -
Peugeot 106 1.1 50mpg+ (mostly motorway miles)0

60mpg (computer doen't show higher due to a software bug) @ 40/50mph on a flat
40mpg around hilly derbyshire @ 30mph
45-50mpg @ 70, drops 5 mpg every 10 mph above
Decent mpg for a 1.3 petrol as it has very high gearing, 2nd will take it to near 700 -
I've just changed from a Celica which averaged 30/32 around town to a Tigra 1.8 which only manages 26 but most of that is top down so creating drag. (it did manage 43 mpg on a 260 mile round trip last weekend on the A1 - Celica would have been around 38 mpg)Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

Mazda2 1.3 petrol 2009.
Local work 2-15 miles on country roads = 46 mpg.
Long distance dual carriageway and Mway = 56 mpg.
Both figures by the 'brim' method not by reference to trip computers (not that I have one in that car). Don't trust trip computer figures, they're usually hopelessly inaccurate.0 -
Yep - Brim method on mine as wellTotally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

My car... A VX Vectra 04 plate gets 28-36mpg.
But let me ask you this!!!
4 year old small car (eg Yaris) = £6500
4 year old large car (eg Vectra) = £3000
Small car 38-46mpg
Large car 28-36mpg
Do you really save money by buying a small car?
Would you save the difference (£3500) on Petrol? I think not...
I don't care what mileage I get, because I still save money and ended up with a better equipped car for my money.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Funny you should ask - I've a 2010 Passat 2.0 TDI Bluemotion - averages 1000 miles on a 70 litre tank, which works out at 65mpg! :cool:0 -
Corsa 1.4 petrol automatic - 34mpg combined! This car has a CO2 output of 190g/km!The man without a signature.0
