Alfie - check out the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales this is the link http://www.cat.org.uk/ - you can buy the makings of windmills or anything you might want on there, as well as find training courses on their use.

The CAT Centre is amazing! A good day out if nothing else, but you can have a meeting with them to find out what is the best type of alternative energy is best for your house and location etc.

    Yes I see your problem:

check out the cost of mains supply of electricity to your Build ! they came back with a £20,000 plus quote to me !! if any one knows of a very "green" way of me powering my house , let me know....

Perhaps if you start your own thread and explain your predicament (ie where you live, how far away the nearest point on the grid is. Who owns the land in between. Can you get there by public highway etc.)
When the guys came to look at my supply one of their major costs seemed to be negotiating with the land owner - I only have a right of way to my home, I don't own the lane nor does the local authority. One side of the lane is owned by a stroppy local farmer and nobody knows who owns the other half.
Thank you for your reply. alas i do not have the foggiest how to start a "thread" as being a girlie, IM A TAD THICK !!!

  • Spruce up your garden on the cheap

The sun's made a few appearances already this year. With summer just around the corner, you might even be thinking of sunny BBQs or al fresco breakfasts. We're looking for ideas to clean up and add some life to your gardens on the cheap. They could be through good value flowers, homemade outdoor furniture, economic use of garden waste or even cheap cutting-hedge technology (geddit?)

    Hi all,

I bought some box trees reduced to £5 in Aldi, and then bought some large black plastic pots from Home Bargains for £2.99 each. They look fab, and considering these box trees cost £25 in B&Q and pots at least £10 it was a crazily good saving. They look fab too. I have 3 outside the front of my house.

I have painted the rear garden fences in Ronseal Wood Sage green, and I am doing the shed in cream with a pink trim, and the bird table pink with a bit of glitter mixed in. Got some pots for the children to do too! Can't wait for it all to be done its going to be beeeeyoootiful!

I bought a pot of the non-flowering chamomile " Treneague" last year, divided it into 12 little plants, grew them on and planted out this year into gravel to make a scented pathway for under £2.

I was in the pound shop today, and got amazing pop up mini greenhouses. Well, they are like the pop up laundry baskets but plastic, and upside down!

Quite a good size too. I have just the spot for them. I think I will need to use steel pegs to keep them steady in the wind.

But they are fab, if you don't have much space.

Now where would I get the ground pegs? Camping shop I suppose, or anyone any other ideas? Thanks.

Pound shops often have tent pegs too.
