:money: Our friends bought us some wooden characters from a website called woodenmen.co.uk & they have livened up our garden tremendously!
All the visitors to our little plot comment on them & the birds find them very intriguing!!

If you are feeling "arty" look out for wierd shaped drift wood or stumps, the bigger the better. i have one 4ft high that looks like a sea horse in my garden, put near my pond.[ cursed a lot to get it home!] use your imagination and put them in weird places then ask visitors what they "see". hilarious answers !
p.s. would post pic but cant?0 -
Last year I used an old pink handbag as a planter. I made holes in the bottom, filled with compost and planted pink geraniums. It looked fabulous. It was a sturdy one which could sit on its own, and I kept it on the patio table. I would post a photo, but I am new to this and do not know how to.

if you want to post piccies, when you post, there should be a envelope type icon at the top with a stamp in the corner, hover over it and it should say picture. that allows you to post a link to a picture on photobucket (which is free)0 -

Anyone got any tips to sort out a derelict garden that's chock full of brambles? It's been like that for 10 years, my other half is disabled and I'm his carer, as well as looking after my elderly parents so I just don't have time to do any gardening. I'd love my daughter to be able to play out there but you literally can't get up the garden for the brambles and bindweed. We've also got 2 dry stone walls that are falling down and some leylandii that are well overgrown. We can't really afford to get anyone in to fix them. We tried asking at the local college to see if any students wanted to have a crack at it (they do horticulture courses there) but they weren't interested. Can't blame them really!
Have you tried your local voluntary service? Do you know anyone with goats, who'll put them in for a few days?

You can list on here, it's for people who want to let someone use a piece of unused garden, You may find someone who will cut down everything for you. Generally whoever uses the garden pays you in produce.
Is ground force still going? or something similar, I would have thought that you would be an ideal candidate for a garden makeover.
Where in the country are you? I'm west country, if there's enough people on here with a few hours to spare perhaps we/they could descend & at least get it chopped back for you. If allowed on the site.
I've also seen people on out Freecycle cafe asking for help in your situation & I assume that they usually get volunteers as there's been thanks posted afterwards.
Good luck & I hope that you find a solution as it would probably make a huge difference to you.0 -

I have been inspired by this plot and went out today to spruce up my garden, using the compost from my compost bin which looked lovely but why do the egg shells never never decompose properly I have planted up strawberry plants £1.99 for 6 but some I split as there was more than 1 from Lidl, tomato plant lidl, (have also planted the seeds prior to today but did it a bit late), then went into Wilkos as mentioned in a previous post and got a lemon tree 75% off and another could be cranberry or similar again 75% off so £1 for one and £1.25 for the other, ok the lemon tree is more of a stick but have given it water and repotted so fingers crossed.0
