I wonder why folks seem to be so reticent about naming the particular prepaid cards they use.
So far there is the UW one, the Babee and now th NHS ( I use the NHS does that count?).
Any more on offer, my Tesco Club card ain't as good as it used to be?
Mind you this is not the appropriate thread.
Forgot, I've got a Georges Tradition discount card, chips anyone? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I concur. Although I believe Cardew's reticence is because he doesn't actually use one at all. The problem he has with answering the question is if he fibs and says he uses the Amex card, for instance, he knows he's going to get specific questions on his use of it which he will struggle to answer. There again, if he finally admits to not using any sort of cash back card his argument with Meeper in particular is fatally flawed. And he knows it.
Quentin never reveals any details regarding his choices on account of cacking himself if his particular choices are subsequently gone through with a fine tooth comb like he does with UWs products on here. Again, this would render his whole argument on here fatally flawed. This is why we don't get answers.0 -

More on the cashcard to divert attention from:The important issue is that Gas and Electricity for the average UK customer will cost £hundreds more with UW than the cheapest tariffs from other companies. Check any comparison website for confirmation.0 -

Is that true??
Absolutely! Check out UKpower ( i refuse to use energyhelpline since their contracted Indian call centre cold called me trying to get me to switch!), put in a 'nonsense' post code and the region page appears.
Being as the OFGEM average UK household consumption is 16,500 gas and 3300 electric then halve it for low consumption households to 8250 gas and 1650 electric (medium user tariff). Input the details and click on view results, then click on paper bills and check out the results. UW are consistently in the top 10 tariffs, even accounting for the extra £12/yr it costs to get monthly paper bills TWELVE TIMES per year (which none of the others could hope to compete with anyway!). Then just keep pressing the back button until the regions page appears, choose a new region, the consumption figs will still be there so you can check that region's results.
Remember also that these figures also include the monthly club fee so any subsequent UW products purchased will be at the 'base' price, i.e. £10.75/mth for the phone line with no min contract (and in this instance eveneing/weekend inclusive calls to 01, 02, 03, 0870 and international destinations, plus 24/7 inclusive calls to other UW phone lines).
Edit: Forgot to say, these figs include NO USE of the cash back card.
Edit: Further forgot to say, you would also get free calls to UW CS and £10,000 accidental death insurance thrown in.0 -
Cardew,
I pay less out of my bank account now than I did before.
If you would like to complain about using the Cashback Card to distract from the high prices, then I shall also use the same line of complaint to moan that you are using the prices to distract from the fact that there is less money going out of my bank account than there was before.
This is a fact, it is indisputable, therefore I am saving money.
I don't expect anything further from this thread, as it is clear that any time I ask a straight question I'm accused of subterfuge and deceit, and the chance of me getting a straight answer to a straight question is obviously nil.
It's a shame I'm thinking of withdrawing from this thread, because if only people would structure their arguments in a logical and coherent way with some evidence as opposed to banging the same drum, we might be able to make some progress.

More on the cashcard to divert attention from:
As opposed to you just copying and pasting the same mantra ad infinitum? Seems to me that any question you can't answer you deem to be diverting attention when it's exactly the tactic you are using when asked what cash back card you use? It's not a difficult question, is it? Surely you remember its name?0 -

No, your reasoning is flawed as has been shown!
You are conveniently "forgetting" the £700/year that uw gets off you (apart from what it takes out of your bank) by way of taking your "cashback" you earn by spending £1000's on your risky uw card.0 -
My reasoning is not flawed, because it's my point of view which makes it absolutely true from my point of view.
Fact - there is less money going out of my bank account now than there was before.
Fact - when I am paying less for something IN PHYSICAL CASH, then I am saving money, reasoning or not.I am an Independent Financial AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as an Independent Financial Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Of course it's flawed. Just to say you think it's not doesn't make it flawless!
If your energy bill came to £696 by your reasoning you would be spamming here to tell us you were getting it free! (As that is the "cashback" you tell us you get (actually "don't get" in "PHYSICAL CASH") off the uw's risky card.
