Credit cards are "risky". Getting tied in to 12- or 18-month contracts is "risky". Crossing the road is "risky". Depositing £100,000 in a bank is "risky". All of the above occur not just on a daily basis, but every minute of every day. My contention is that the UW Card is a minimal risk and that in all of his protestations the it was "risky", Q failed to understand the reasons WHY it was so, and simply put the same old response every time "because UW says it is".

Depositing £100k in a bank covered by the FSCS is not risky, the first £85k is guaranteed by the government. The balance of the £100k would almost certainly be covered when the government bail out the bank. As they did with RBS and Lloyds who are both FTSE 100 companies who were in effect bankrupt but were bailed out

I will state again - there is less money going out of my bank account now than there was before I joined UW. THAT is the important issue, as the measure of savings money is having less going out of your bank account.

The flaw in your argument has been pointed out many times.

You neglect to mention that in addition to your bank account being raided by the uw, they also are taking another £700 of your money you have earned via your risky card.

That's being a busy fool alright!

Bank account raided by UW?? You mean they had a direct debit agreement and had the money paid to them for goods/services supplied? Really, Quentin, you really are such a drama queen when it comes to UW. How many companies 'raid' your bank account every month?? Pathetic.

Shouldn't some of you people have "I am a UW rep" in your signatures? It's pretty clear who you are.

The important issue is that Gas and Electricity for the average UK customer will cost £hundreds more with UW than the cheapest tariffs from other companies. Check any comparison website for confirmation.

Check the comparison websites for proof!

They post under different names posing as satisfied customers.

MillicentBystander for example has posted as 1carminestocky, Operastar, Carespress - every post supporting UW.
  • Just like to thank the people on this thread for the information provided. I've neglected this for far to long by assuming i was getting a decent deal.

I've already started to compare prices with others and i can see what Quentin and others mean about the price.

I know the Cash card saves money but its no point having that if i'm paying over the odds initially. I have another CC which gives airmiles which i could be gaining from and still saving this money by the look of it.

Baggieboy have a good look around MSE, there is a huge amount of information and threads on getting the best deal on everything. It might be worth you having a look at all of your outgoings (Not just utilities) and finding what deals you can find.

Once you have done it once as well as probably saving yourself money you will have a better understanding of the costs and your requirements. This makes it easier to keep track of them to ensure you are getting the best deal and makes it easier for you to shop around again in the future should you need to check your getting the best deal.

I don't believe they are allowed that to put that in their signatures as it would be to close to advertising.

So I use an alternative supplier for my gas, elec and telecoms... and use a cashback card - just like the one available to NHS staff as posted on previous page.

And the option if you don't work for the NHS?
